Toner bottle having rib

A method and apparatus for discriminating bottle types, for stirring the toner, and for detecting the amount of toner remaining in the toner bottle. A toner bottle is adapted to fit the apparatus for discriminating toner bottle types, and a toner bottle is adapted for the apparatus for stirring toner. The genuineness of the toner bottle product is checked by sensing a rib assumed to be formed with a predetermined length on the outer surface of the toner bottle. Toner is stirred by continuously rotating the toner bottle in forward and reverse directions. The toner bottle can be easily rotated in the forward and reverse directions by sensing the rib of the toner bottle by using the sensor. Since the load of rotation of the toner bottle changes in accordance with the amount of remaining toner, the rotational speed of the toner bottle is sensed by using the sensor to check whether toner is close to empty.

An image forming apparatus includes an image former; a detector; and a hardware processor that: calculates a minimum area for each of the plurality of tones based on image data of the image, calculates a density ratio between the densities before and after the transferring is made for each of the plurality of tones from the densities detected by the detector, extracts as a first area a minimum area of a tone corresponding to a density ratio which switches from less than a predetermined threshold to equal to or more than the threshold, and extracts as a second area a minimum area of a tone the density ratio of which is a maximum, and changes a setting of a dot size of the image so that a size of the second area becomes the same as a size of the first area until the next setting change is performed.

A system and method for determining print cartridge authenticity in a printer includes an electrostatic process unit with a photoconductive drum configured to selectively generate a toner pattern from an associated toner cartridge based at least in part on electronic data associated with the toner cartridge. A transfer belt receives the toner pattern from the photoconductive drum and a sensor sensing the toner pattern on the transfer belt. A processor compares the toner pattern with a sensed toner pattern and generates an error condition when the toner pattern does not substantially match the sensed toner pattern. The toner includes an infrared reflective additive or an ultraviolet fluorescing additive and the sensor is configured to sense in the infrared or ultraviolet frequencies. The processor is configured to generate an error condition when the additive is not sensed by the sensor.

TRANSFERRING PRINT AGENT IN PRINT APPARATUS

In one example of the disclosure, it is determined that an amount of print agent remaining in a print agent container of a print apparatus is below a threshold level. An amount of print solution is transferred from a print solution reservoir of the print apparatus, or an amount of print solution solvent is transferred from a solvent reservoir of the print apparatus, into the print agent container. At least some of the remaining print agent is caused to dissolve into the amount of print solution or print solution solvent to forma rinse solution. The rinse solution is transferred from the print agent reservoir to the print solution reservoir.

A printer controller determines whether a cartridge refilled with a recording material is mounted on an image forming apparatus. If it is determined that the cartridge refilled with the recording material is mounted on the image forming apparatus, control for shifting a printer engine to a predetermined state is performed, raw data is acquired from the printer engine that has been shifted to the predetermined state, and a user is notified of the degree of wear of the cartridge based on the acquired raw data. On the other hand, if the printer controller determines that the cartridge refilled with the recording material is not mounted on the image forming apparatus, the printer controller acquires a predicted value from the printer engine, and notifies the user of the degree of wear of the cartridge based on the predicted value.
