APPENDING DATA TO A TAPE CARTRIDGE DURING RECALL OPERATIONS
A tool for tape library hierarchical storage management. The tool mounts a tape cartridge to a tape drive to satisfy a recall request. The tool determines there is available tape capacity on the tape cartridge to migrate data from a migration queue during recall operations. The tool sends a locate end of data (EOD) command to the tape drive. The tool receives a longitudinal position (LPOS) range returned from the tape drive. The tool determines the migration queue is within the LPOS range. The tool writes data from the migration queue to the tape cartridge within the LPOS range.
TAPE-TO-TAPE COPYING BETWEEN NODES OF MAGNETIC TAPE FILE SYSTEMS
In an approach to improve magnetic tape file systems through tape-to-tape copying between nodes on a Linear Tape File System using a cluster-wide named pipe. Embodiments transfer data between a first node and a second node. Additionally, both the first node and the second node implement a parallel shared-disk file system through a data path for node data reading and writing from a shared-disk and to the shared-disk. Further, to transfer data between the first node and the second node, embodiments, write, by the first node, the data for tape-to-tape copy from a first tape drive to the shared-disk, and write, by the second node, the data written from the shared-disk to a second tape drive.
DATA PROCESSING DEVICE, DATA PROCESSING METHOD, AND PROGRAM
A data processing device includes a processor, and a storage connected to the processor. The processor acquires industrial data, stores the acquired industrial data in the storage, causes a magnetic tape management system that manages a magnetic tape to save the industrial data stored in the storage on the magnetic tape, and reduces a part of the industrial data from the storage in a case in which a predetermined condition is satisfied.
AIR GAPPED DATA STORAGE DEVICES AND SYSTEMS
A data storage blade includes a plurality of data storage cartridges, with each of the plurality of data storage cartridges comprising at least one data storage medium. The data storage blade also includes shared drive electronics (SDE) external to the plurality of data storage cartridges. The SDE is configured to control data access operations on different data storage cartridges of the plurality of data storage cartridges. The data storage blade further includes a controller-override mechanism activatable to disable communication between the SDE and the plurality of data storage cartridges.
CARTRIDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, METHOD OF OPERATING CARTRIDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, AND PROGRAM
A cartridge management system that manages a plurality of cartridges, in each of which a magnetic tape is housed, includes a processor, and a memory incorporated in or connected to the processor, in which the processor is configured to execute data rewrite-in processing of rewriting data stored in the magnetic tape, in a specific cartridge among the plurality of cartridges based on an access frequency indicating a frequency of access to the data, and cartridge replacement processing of replacing the data stored in the magnetic tape of the specific cartridge and the data stored in the magnetic tape of another cartridge among the plurality of cartridges.
RECALLING FILES FROM TAPE
Embodiments are disclosed for a method. The method includes migrating a file to a newer tape. The file is previously recalled by a linear tape file system (LTFS) from an older tape. The method also includes updating a stub for the file with metadata describing the newer tape, the older tape, and the file. Further, the method includes recalling the file using a tape selected from a plurality of potential tapes identified by the metadata.
AUTOMATIC RECOVERY OF LOCKING FILESYSTEM SHARED BETWEEN VIRTUAL TAPE LIBRARY NODES
A virtual tape library system includes multiple copies of a LockFS that are mounted on all nodes. One of the LockFSs is designated as the active copy. A primary node manages recovery when a secondary node signals loss of connectivity with the active copy by posting a sync request file to at least one of the LockFSs. The primary node posts status request files to the LockFSs and the secondary nodes respond by writing status to the status request files. A LockFS that is reachable by all nodes is selected as the new active LockFS. Switchover is accomplished by the primary node posting a disable request file to the selected LockFS and waiting for all secondary nodes to acknowledge by writing to the disable request file. The primary node then posts an activate request file to the selected LockFS and waits for all secondary nodes to acknowledge by writing to the activate request file.
Reducing data using a plurality of compression operations in a virtual tape library
Embodiments are provided for reducing data using a plurality of compression operations in a computing storage environment. A speed of data writing to a virtual tape device and an availability of one or more processor devices for the virtual tape device may be monitored. One or more requests may be received for writing data to the virtual tape device. Data to be written to the virtual tape device, corresponding to a selected number of the one or more requests for writing the data, may be compressed according to both the speed of data writing to the virtual tape device and the availability of one or more processor devices for the virtual tape device. The compressed data may be stored in the virtual tape device in record units. Non-compressed data may be compressed in the virtual tape device at a subsequent period of time (e.g., future time period).
Real-time library-based in situ drive test, drive head status detection, cleaning verification and tracking
A media library (10) for evaluating a health of a head (256) of a media drive (26) includes a library control system (30) that is configured to control oversight functionality of the media library (10). The library control system (30) receives media drive information generated during at least one of a read procedure and a write procedure being performed by the media drive (26) and analyzes the media drive information to determine the health of the head (256) of the media drive (26). The media drive information includes drive performance metrics generated by the media drive (26) during a read verify procedure performed by the media drive (26) upon request of the library control system (30) of the media library (10).
Duplicating tape media within a tape storage system based on copy tape database
Computer software and/or hardware configured to select a first tape medium of a first pool and a second tape medium of a second pool based, at least in part, on a migration command for a file, instruct a tape drive to write the file to both the first tape medium of the first pool and a third tape medium of a system pool of a tape library, record a file identifier (ID) for the file and an identifier for the second tape medium of the second pool in a copy tape database (CTDB), wherein the file ID points to the file written to the third tape medium of the system pool, and instruct the tape drive to read the file from the third tape medium of the system pool utilizing the file ID in the CTDB and to write the file to the second tape medium of the second pool.
