Smartcard

Card including a substrate, at least one biometric data entry device on the substrate to receive biometric data about an individual holding the substrate, a memory component on the substrate and containing biometric data about an individual possessing the card and at least one private key, and a processor configured to compare biometric data received via the biometric data entry device to biometric data contained in the memory component to determine whether they match. When there is a biometric data match, a process requiring use of the private key(s) is initiated for authorized use of the card. A chassis intrusion detector system detects tampering with the card and upon such detection, causes deletion of the private key(s) to thereby prevent unauthorized use of the card.

Tamper/damage detection

Various aspects are directed to the detection of tampering, as may be applicable to retail goods and a variety of implementations. As may be consistent with one or more embodiments, an apparatus includes a loop conductor having first and second ends and contiguous conductive material extending in a loop between the ends. A detection circuit detects continuity of the loop conductor and characteristics of power that is provided to the loop conductor and is indicative of validity of the continuity detection. A communication circuit communicates a wireless signal indicative of the detected electrical characteristics, and an energy circuit powers the loop conductor, detection circuit and communication circuit via received wireless power. Other aspects are further directed to an interrogator that provides the wireless power and evaluates the wireless signal to detect tampering with the conductive loop and validity thereof.

Systems and methods for preventing chip fraud by inserts in chip pocket

Systems and methods for providing fraud prevention inserts in a chip pocket of a card are provided. A chip fraud prevention system includes a device including a chip and one or more fraud prevention inserts. The chip, and the fraud prevention inserts, may be at least partially encompassed in a chip pocket.

Tamper-resistant transaction card and method of providing a tamper-resistant transaction card

A dynamic transaction card that is manufactured using conductive plastic jumpers that will dissolve when in contact with a solvent used to tamper with the dynamic transaction card. Internal components of a dynamic transaction card may be manufactured using a synthetic or semi-synthetic organic material, such as, for example, plastics. These materials may be conductive to provide functionality to a dynamic transaction card, such as a connection between an integrated circuit and other card components such that when the materials dissolve, the connections are broken and the dynamic transaction card may be inactive due to the loss of various connections.

On-chip RF interrogation for heterogeneous RFIDS

Techniques and architecture are disclosed for allowing the provenance of an integrated circuit to be verified using a dielet in wireless communication with a die through a near-field communications protocol where the positions of the dielet and die are fixed relative to one another during manufacturing such that their respective means for wirelessly communicating with one another are aligned.

Hierarchical combination of distributed statistics in a monitoring network

Methods, systems, and computer program products for creating a monitoring network are described. A server associates a master wireless node with a package in a first set of associated packages. The server and the master wireless node communicate with one another over first type of wireless communications interface. The server also associates a peripheral wireless node with another package in the set and with the master node. The peripheral wireless node and the master wireless node communicate with one another over a second type of wireless communications interface. The peripheral node includes a sensor operative to generate sensor data by sensing an environmental condition. The master wireless node processes the sensor data to generate one or more package-level statistics of the processed sensor data.

Method, apparatus, and system for detecting card skimming devices

Provided herein is a method, apparatus, and system for detecting conditions indicative of an attempt to attach a skimming device to a payment device. Methods may include monitoring at least one wire among a plurality of wires between a card reader device and a motherboard; determining voltage consumption; determining current consumption; identifying a change in voltage consumption or current consumption satisfying a predetermined value; and providing for transmission of an alert of a condition indicating possible attachment of a card skimming device. Methods may include generating a status message periodically and transmitting the status message to a remote entity. The change in voltage consumption or current consumption satisfying the predetermined value may include a voltage instability exceeding a predetermined range about an anticipated voltage. The change in voltage consumption or current consumption satisfying the predetermined value may include a decrease in current satisfying the predetermined value.
