A device configured for installation on a wire includes a housing with a wire passage provided therein. A blade is configured to extend through the wire passage and sever the wire. A first electrically conductive member is configured to extend into the wire passage and engage a first end of the severed wire, and a second electrically conductive member is configured to extend into the wire passage and engage a second end of the severed wire. The first end of the severed wire is connected to the second end of the severed wire when a switch arrangement is in a closed position. The first end of the severed wire is disconnected from the second end of the severed wire when the switch arrangement is in an open position. A manual actuator is configured to move the switch arrangement between the open position and the closed position.

Apparatuses for manipulating power switch of electronic device located in remote position within storage cabinet
09894797 · 2018-02-13 · ·

Power switch manipulation apparatuses that allow users to manipulate power switches of FRUs mounted within storage racks in a manner free of a user having to physically reach into the storage rack to manipulate the power switches. One embodiment of the disclosed manipulation apparatus broadly includes a base member that may be rigidly secured to a portion of the frame of a storage rack (e.g., on a side or vertical member adjacent a rear door or opening of the rack at the same or similar height as at least one of the power switches) along with a tool that is movably mounted or mountable to the base member for manipulating a power switch of a FRU mounted in the rack.

Panelboard breaker compartment with disconnect features

A circuit breaker may be plugged into a breaker compartment in a panelboard without making a connection to a power bus of the panel board. A tool may be inserted into the breaker compartment to operate movable contacts that connect, or disconnect, the circuit breaker from the power bus without de-energizing the power line network. Inserting the tool into the breaker compartment first causes a trip actuator to trip the circuit breaker.

Portable actuator device and system for remotely operating electrical disconnect switches

A portable actuator system enables the remote operation of electrical disconnect switches with a portable actuator device that is temporarily installed at the disconnect switch location. An embodiment, among others, of the portable actuator device has an electric motor having a drive shaft that can be controlled to rotate about a longitudinal axis. The actuator device also has elongated movable first and second arms that are controlled by the drive shaft. The first arm engages and moves the disconnect handle in a first rotational direction so that the disconnect handle is switched to the open position. The second arm engages and moves the disconnect handle in a second rotational direction so that the disconnect handle is switched to the closed position.

Disclosed is a handheld control device (HCD) for remotely operating molded case circuit breakers. The HCD has an engagement fixture with a rectangular aperture for capturing a circuit breaker handle of a molded case circuit breaker. The fixture is attached to a central part of an actuating short arm. The actuating short arm is attached perpendicularly and pivotally to an elongated long arm that is of sufficient distance to protect an operator from hazardous arcing. Right and left elongated actuating members (e.g., rods, cables) extend along the long arm and attach to respective end portions of the actuating short arm. In one embodiment, a pivot handle manually moves the elongated actuating members to move the actuating short arm and consequently the fixture and handle. In another embodiment, a motor is controlled to move the elongated actuating members to move the actuating short arm and consequently the fixture and handle.
