Load Modulation in Signal Transmission
A transmitter for transmitting a signal is provided, in which the transmitter includes a power amplifier and a driver amplifier, an output of the driver amplifier being connected to an input of the power amplifier via a first load modulation device operable to match impedance of the driver amplifier output with impedance of the power amplifier input. A second load modulation device can be connected to the output of the power amplifier and operable to match the impedance of the power amplifier output with input impedance of a further device. Envelope tracking can be applied to the power amplifier and the driving amplifier.
MULTI-MODE POWER AMPLIFIERS WITH PHASE MATCHING
Apparatus and methods for multi-mode power amplifiers are provided herein. In certain configurations, a wireless device includes a multi-mode power amplifier including a plurality of amplification paths electrically connected in parallel with one another. The plurality of amplification paths includes a first amplification path including an input stage of a first stage type and an output stage of a second stage type, and a second amplification path including an output stage of the second stage type. The first stage type provides non-inverting gain and the second stage type provides inverting gain. The wireless device further includes a transceiver that provides a radio frequency signal to the multi-mode power amplifier, and that operates the multi-mode power amplifier in a selected power mode chosen from a plurality of power modes based on selectively activating one or more of the plurality of amplification paths.
POWER AMPLIFYING APPARATUS WITH WIDEBAND LINEARITY
A power amplifying apparatus includes a first bias circuit configured to generate a first bias current, a first amplification circuit, configured to receive the first bias current, amplify a signal input to the first amplification circuit through a first node, and output a first amplified signal to a second node, a second bias circuit, configured to generate a second bias current which has a magnitude different from a magnitude of the first bias current, and a second amplification circuit, connected in parallel with the first amplification, configured to receive the second bias current, amplify the signal input through the first node, and output a second amplified signal to the second node. The second amplification circuit is configured to output the second amplified signal with a third-harmonic component that has a phase offsetting a third-order intermodulation distortion (IM3) component included in the first amplified signal, based on the second bias current.
Inter-stage network for radio frequency amplifier
A device includes a substrate and a package input terminal. The device includes a driver amplifier mounted to the substrate and configured to receive a radio frequency input signal. A first amplifier is mounted to the substrate. The first amplifier includes a first amplifier input terminal. A second amplifier is mounted to the substrate. The second amplifier includes a second amplifier input terminal. An inter-stage network is connected between the driver amplifier and the first amplifier and between the driver amplifier and the second amplifier. The inter-stage network includes a first capacitor connected between the driver amplifier and the first amplifier input terminal, and an inductor having a first terminal and a second terminal. The first terminal of the inductor is connected to the first capacitor. The inter-stage network includes a second capacitor connected between the second terminal of the inductor and the second amplifier input terminal.
Power amplification module
A power amplification module includes a first amplification transistor that receives a first signal outputs an amplified second signal from the collector thereof; and a bias circuit that supplies a bias current to the base of the first amplification transistor. The first bias circuit includes a first transistor that is diode connected and is supplied with a bias control current; a second transistor that is diode connected, the collector thereof being connected to the emitter of the first transistor; a third transistor, the base thereof being connected to the base of the first transistor, and the bias current being output from the emitter thereof; a fourth transistor, the collector thereof being connected to the emitter of the third transistor and the base thereof being connected to the base of the second transistor; and a first capacitor between the base and the emitter of the third transistor.
Power amplification circuit
A power amplification circuit that includes: a capacitor element in which a first metal layer, a first insulating layer, a second metal layer, a second insulating layer and a third metal layer are sequentially stacked, the capacitor element including a first capacitor in which the first metal layer serves as one electrode thereof and the second metal layer serves as another electrode thereof, and a second capacitor in which the second metal layer serves as one electrode thereof and the third metal layer serves as another electrode thereof; and a transistor that amplifies a radio-frequency signal. The radio-frequency signal is supplied to the one electrode of the first capacitor. The other electrode of the first capacitor and the one electrode of the second capacitor are connected to a base of the transistor, and the other electrode of the second capacitor is connected to the emitter of the transistor.
Transceiving device
A transceiving device includes: a signal port, arranged to relay an RF input signal during a first mode, and to relay an RF output signal during a second mode different from the first mode; a receiver, coupled to the signal port; a transmitter, coupled to the signal port; and a first adjustable capacitor, coupled to the signal port. The second adjustable capacitor is arranged to have a first capacitance during the first mode such that the RF input signal is received by the receiver, and the second adjustable capacitor is arranged to have a second capacitance during the second mode such that the RF output signal is transmitted to the signal port.
POWER AMPLIFIER MODULE
A power amplifier module includes a first current source that outputs a first current corresponding to a level control voltage for controlling a signal level of an amplified signal, a second current source that outputs a second current corresponding to the level control voltage, a first transistor in which an input signal and a first bias current are supplied to a base and an emitter is grounded, a second transistor in which an emitter is connected to a collector of the first transistor, the second current is supplied to a base, and a first amplified signal obtained by amplifying the input signal is output from a collector, and a third transistor in which the first current is supplied to a collector, a bias control current or voltage is supplied to a base, and the first bias current is supplied from an emitter to the base of the first transistor.
Output power cell for cascode amplifiers
A cascode power cell for a power amplifier circuit includes a radio frequency signal input node, a radio frequency signal output node, and a plurality of sub-cells each including a first transistor having a collector coupled to the radio frequency signal output node, each of the plurality of sub-cells further including a second transistor having a collector coupled to an emitter of the first transistor at a connection node, and a base coupled to the radio frequency signal input node, the connection nodes for each of the plurality of sub-cells being electrically isolated from one another.
MULTIPLE-PATH AMPLIFIER WITH SERIES COMPONENT ALONG INVERTER BETWEEN AMPLIFIER OUTPUTS
Embodiments of a multiple-path amplifier (e.g., a Doherty amplifier) and a module housing the amplifier include a first amplifier (or first power transistor die) with a first output terminal, a second amplifier (or second power transistor die) with a second output terminal, and an impedance inverter line assembly electrically connected between the first and second output terminals. The impedance inverter line assembly includes a first transmission line and a surface mount component connected in series between the first and second output terminals. In various embodiments, the surface mount component is selected from a fixed-value capacitor, a fixed-value inductor, a tunable capacitor, a tunable inductor, and a tunable passive component network.
