METHOD AND SYSTEMS TO MONITOR AND ISOLATE ISSUES OVER LAYER1 PATHS USING FLEXE CLIENT OAM
20200259728 · 2020-08-13 ·

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for monitoring and isolating issues over physical layer (layer 1) paths using Flexible Ethernet (FlexE) protocols via client-based operations, administration, and maintenance (OAM) management. Each node within a FlexE communications path may dynamically insert, extract, and/or replace OAM messages from FlexE data streams as needed to ensure that the OAM messages may be provided unimpeded to a destination (e.g. monitoring server or other device), as well as inserting additional monitoring data (e.g. bit error rates, delay measurements, loss measurements, threshold crossing alerts, or other such monitoring notifications or data) for intermediary nodes.

Translating a network configuration request for a network control apparatus

An enterprise network may be managed by enabling provision of a graphical user interface that shows IP address allocations for the network and that allows a user to configure DHCP scopes, receiving a DHCP scope request based on a user interaction with the graphical user interface, translating the request into a protocol for communicating with a DHCP control server, providing the translated request to the DHCP control server for processing at the DHCP control server, and updating configurations of multiple DHCP servers. The updated configurations may be sent from the DHCP control server to a configuration storage system and the multiple DHCP servers may be enabled to access the updated configurations from the configuration storage system.

IN-SITU OAM TRACE TYPE EXTENSION WITH CASCADE BITMAP AND SEGMENT IN-SITU OAM
20200244520 · 2020-07-30 · ·

The disclosure relates to technology for sending network management information in a network. A source edge node modifies data packets by encapsulating an operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) header in the data packets traversing a data path, and the OAM header includes a first indicator field. The source edge node also inserts a segment size field into the OAM header of the data packets based on an indication by the first indicator field, the segment size field indicating the data path is partitioned into segments based on a value of the segment size field.

Parallel distributed network management

In a network of a plurality of machines and a server, the machines have self-organized into a linearly ordered sequence in accordance with a predefined order of their respective machine identifiers. The linearly ordered sequence includes one or more local segments each include a first machine followed by a sequence of second machines. A query regarding management information of a local segment is injected into the network at the first machine of the local segment. The query is forwarded along the local segment, and each machine in the local segment responds to the query by adding its own local information to any answers already accumulated in the payload of the query. A second machine in the local segment sends a report message containing aggregated management information that has been collected in the payload of the query to the server.

WWAN-enabled remote switch management system

A Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN)-enabled remote switch management system includes a management device having a management device WWAN communication subsystem that is configured to transmit management commands from the management device through a WWAN. The WWAN-enabled remote switch management system also includes a switch device having a chassis. A switch device wired communication subsystem is located in the chassis, coupled to a Local Area Network (LAN), and is not coupled to the Internet. A switch device WWAN communication subsystem is located in the chassis and is configured to receive management commands from the management device through the WWAN. A switch management engine is located in the chassis, coupled to the switch device WWAN communication subsystem, and is configured to receive the management commands from the switch device WWAN communication subsystem, and execute the management commands to perform a management action on the switch device.

Current configuration state specific device configuration

Systems and methods for configuring a device to operate based on a current configuration state of the device in a manner agnostic to an assumed configuration state of a device. Systems can include a local state aware device manager and a state aware device configuration agnostic mediator. Methods can include locally determining an actual current configuration state of a device in operation, generating desired configuration instructions based on the actual current configuration state of the device, and locally configuring the device to operate according to the desired configuration instructions.

In-situ OAM trace type extension with cascade bitmap and segment in-situ OAM

The disclosure relates to technology for sending network management information in a network. A source edge node modifies data packets by encapsulating an operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) header in a select number of the data packets. The OAM header includes a data type bitmap and a node data list. A valid node bitmap is inserted into the OAM header prior to the node data list, and each bit in the valid node bitmap identifies whether one or more nodes in the network add data to the OAM header. A valid data bitmap is then added into the OAM header for each of the one or more nodes identified as adding data to the OAM header. The valid data bitmap indicates types of data items available at the node. Subsequently, the edge node issues the select data packets to the one or more nodes identified in the OAM header.

System including management system to determine configuration for inter-networking device based on physical layer information of a network

One exemplary embodiment is directed to a system comprising a switch used in a network and a central function configured to receive physical layer information related to the network. The physical layer information includes information associating media access control (MAC) addresses of devices on the network with ports of the switch. The switch is configured to use information about a spanning tree determined by the central function to configure the switch to carry out a switching function performed by the switch. The central function is configured to use at least some physical layer information about patching equipment in the network and end devices in the network in associating MAC addresses of devices on the network with the ports of the switch. Other embodiments are disclosed.

A secure virtual network platform connects two or more subnets in different or separate network domains. The secure virtual network can use the under layer physical networks in various domains as an IP forwarding fabric without changing any existing firewalls, security settings, or network topology. A first type of connection across the virtual network involves connecting server groups. A second type of connection across the virtual network involves connecting a server group to a physical network. A third type of connection across the virtual network involves connecting a physical network to another physical network.
