The present invention relates to systems and methods for improving transmission of voice packets over a network are provided. The systems and methods include a few central internet data centers (IDCs) which include a routing controller and an access controller. The system also includes a number of edge IDCs. Each edge IDC includes a last mile optimizer and a relay server. The last mile optimizer operates along with an application located on the users' devices and the access controller in the central IDCs to identify the best edge server for the particular device to connect to. The edge servers continually monitor pathway performance once the call is in progress. If an error is detected, then the server may automatically transition to back-up pathways rapidly to minimize call performance disruption.

A system for issuing a notification responsive to the occurrence of an event affecting a monitored person. The system has a monitoring device that determines occurrence of an event related to the health or safety of the person and produces a first signal when the event occurs. A first communications device issues a second signal upon receiving the first signal and a second communications device issues a notification signal upon receiving the second signal. The notification signal is issued to one or more entities and advises that an event has occurred. The first communications device has a shorter communications range than the second communications device. Also, the second communications device operating at a higher power level or a greater signal bandwidth than the first communications device.

Computer system, a telecommunication device and a telecommunication network

A telecommunication network 20 configures a telecommunication device 11 and makes and controls communication connections between telecommunication devices. The telecommunication network 20 is configured such that, in use, on initiation of the telecommunication device 11, such as an Internet Protocol telephone or video telephone, a telecommunication device identifier to identify the telecommunication device 11 is output to a computer system or provisioning server 41 via the Internet 10. The computer system 41 receives the telecommunication device identifier and, in response, outputs to the telecommunication device 11, via the Internet 10, an indication of a telecommunication device control system or PBX 12 for use by the telecommunication device 11. The telecommunication device control system 12 is subsequently usable by the telecommunication device 11 to make and control communication connections between the telecommunication device 11 and other telecommunication devices.

Certain embodiments of the invention generally relate to lawful interception of communications for IP Multimedia System-based (IMS-based) voice over IP (VoIP). For example, some embodiments relate to interception of communications including interception for encrypted, transcoded media. A method may include identifying a network node that provides call content interception. The method may also include determining a codec type used at a location of the call content interception at the network node. The method may further include sending a matched codec of the codec type used at the location of the call content interception at the network node to a delivery function in the communications network.

System and method for registering an IP telephone

A system and method for establishing connection of an IP telephone to a network may include, in response to receiving a registration request from an IP telephone, generating a command to cause network access devices to ping the IP telephone. The command may be communicated to the network access devices. Ping information may be received in response to the network access devices pinging the IP telephone. A network access device may be selected that has the highest quality network access path to the IP telephone. In response to selecting the network access device that has the highest quality network access path, a network address of the selected network access device may be communicated to a network device to enable the IP telephone to communicate with the selected network access device. Credentials may be communicated to the IP telephone to register with the selected network access device.

Systems, apparatuses and methods for party line calls among voice over internet protocol (VoIP) telephones

Devices, systems and methods are provided to support a party call with auto joining function in a communication system for a distributed transport system that employs VoIP technology. A VoIP unit or end point acts as a conference bridge between an operator extension and other end points. A first end point makes a SIP call to the operator and multicasts a mix of its send audio and the received operator audio. Other end points first check for multicast traffic being received before making a SIP call to the operator and, if so, play out the received audio over its speaker and multicast its send audio. The end point initiating the call mixes this subsequent stream into a stream to the operator, effectively acting as the conference bridge to the operator. The other end points are responsible for mixing received multicast streams for their local speaker.
