A portable device can transmit information through one of a mobile phone network and an Internet, wherein the portable device includes a text-based communication module to allow a user may synchronously transmit or receive data through a local area network, wherein the data is text, audio, video or the combination thereof. The text-based communication module of the portable device includes a text-to-speech recognition module used to convert a text data for outputting the text data by vocal, and a read determination module for determining read target terminals and unread target terminals when a user of the portable phone device activates the read determination module.

Devices and methods are provided that permit interoperability between Radio over Internet Protocol (RoIP) devices and land mobile radio (LMR) devices. In one device according to the invention, a networked radio includes a wireless network transceiver, an LMR signal connector, and an analog-to-digital converter/digital-to-analog converter (ADC/DAC). A computer processor that inputs data from or outputs data to the ADC/DAC includes a sound architecture and a server. The server includes a digital audio buffer, a voice-activity detector, and a daemon. The daemon is configured to (1) collect data on one or more variables affecting a best-choice determination for transmitting a communications signal intended for retransmission to one or more LMR devices, and (2) make the best-choice determination based on the data collected.

The present invention provides a telecom control function in a communication terminal. The telecom control function is configured to receive call indicia when a call tag in a software entity, such as an application or electronic document, is selected by a user of the communication terminal. The call indicia provides information associated with a remote party with which a call is being requested by the user. The telecom control function may use the call indicia along with user indicia obtained from the user and indirectly establish a call with the remote party using a telephony terminal other than the communication terminal. If the communication terminal includes a telecommunication client capable of supporting a call, the telecom control function may instruct the telecommunication client to directly initiate the call with the remote party using the call indicia.

A system, method and apparatus for re-establishing a video call received at a public safety answering point are described. A Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) video call establishment request is received at an emergency call answer node. The video call establishment request has an indication of a previously established emergency messaging session between an operator workstation and a sending device to re-establish. The emergency call answer node checks a recovery queue for a previously received call establishment request having a matching indication for the previously established video call to re-establish. The emergency call answer node bridges a session leg for the received call establishment request and a session leg for the previously received call establishment request having the matching indication for the previously established messaging session to re-establish the messaging session when a match is found.

A system and method for sending push notifications over different channels for different types of traffic is disclosed. The method includes establishing a first communication channel with a computing device, establishing a second communication channel with the computing device, associating a first category with the first communication channel, the first category having a first set of message types, associating a second category with the second communication channel, the second category having a second set of message types, receiving a message, determining a category for the message from the first category and the second category, and sending the message to the computing device using a communication channel associated with the determined category.

A handset is also described, which includes a receiver to receive audio data from an internet telephony service over a communication channel, an audio output to play the received audio data received by the receiver, a wireless module to communicate with a display device, and a processor. The processor can synchronize, using the wireless module, play of the received audio data on the audio output with display, by the display device, of video data received by the display device from the internet telephony service.
