Device and method for controlling charging in a mobile communication system

The present invention relates to a method, packet data network gateway (PGW), and server in a mobile communication system and device for controlling charging in a mobile communication system. The method by a PGW in a mobile communication system includes identifying data usage information associated with a specific service for a terminal, determining whether the data usage information satisfies a predetermined condition, and transmitting a notification message including the data usage information if the data usage information satisfies the predetermined condition, to a policy and charging rules function (PCRF) entity. The data usage information is used to display a message in the terminal.

Split billing for a user across multiple billing systems
10560581 · 2020-02-11 · ·

The disclosed system provides a facility for split billing for a single user on multiple billing systems. The disclosed system activates the user on each respective billing system using a unique pairing, such as an international mobile subscriber identity that identifies the user, and a mobile station international subscriber directory number that identifies a particular user device. As device data is routed through a telecommunication network via each access point name (APN), the network generates call detail records (CDRs), which include an indication of the APN used. The CDRs are routed to a mediations platform that uses the received APN information to route each CDR to the appropriate target billing system. For example, CDRs identifying a APN may be routed to a telematics billing system, which then generates a bill that is sent to a car dealership.

Accounting for bias of user characteristics when determining consumption of content by online system users
10554721 · 2020-02-04 · ·

An online system determines one or more metrics describing consumption of content by various users by identifying users of the online system capable of being identified based on information received from multiple client devices. For example, the online system identifies users associated with user identifiers that are also associated with other types of identifying information (e.g., cookies, device identifiers). From the identified users, the online system generates a set of users based on a distribution of characteristics. The distribution of characteristics may be determined by the online system as characteristics of a group of users or received by the online system from a third party system and describes characteristics of users of the third party system. Based on interactions with content by users in the set, the online system determines one or more metrics describing consumption of content.

SYSTEM, SMART DEVICE AND METHOD FOR APPORTIONING DEVICE OPERATIONS AND COSTS
20200021688 · 2020-01-16 ·

A system, smart device and method for apportioning costs of smart device operations between purposes. Operation information concerning operations performed by the smart device is recorded. The operations are apportioned between purposes based on categorization information and the operation information. The cost of the apportioned operations performed by the device is determined for the purposes based on the operation information and tariff information.

Methods and Apparatus for Differentiated Charging in a Communication Network

A communication network (10) tracking usage information for each of two or more components of traffic associated with the same application identifier provides a basis for differentiating charging with respect to the two or more components. For example, traffic carried by a communication network (10) for a social media application running on a User Equipment (UE) (12) may be identified by a corresponding application identifier. However, the so-identified traffic may include multiple components, such as traffic providing the social-media service(s) and traffic constituting advertising or other ancillary or supplementary content. Tracking and reporting the network usage associated with respective components, i.e., at a granularity finer than that provided by the overall application or traffic flow identifier, provides an advantageous basis for differentiated charging as between the respective components.

Method and apparatus for modifying charging mode, mobile terminal, and network side device

A method and an apparatus for modifying a charging mode, a mobile terminal and a network side device are provided in the present disclosure. The method includes: transmitting a signaling message containing information of modifying roles of current calling and called parties or modifying a charging mode to a network side, after receiving a signaling message containing calling information; and receiving a signaling message transmitted by the network side that contains information that the roles of the current calling and called parties are modified, or the charging mode is modified. In the present disclosure, calling and called parties can be modified in real time through network, which is convenient to operate, and can save network signaling overhead and can avoid a current call being interrupted by the network side due to insufficient tariffs of a current calling party.

Method, system, and device of cellular traffic monitoring
RE050002 · 2024-06-04 · ·

A cellular traffic monitoring system includes: a traffic detection function (TDF) module to monitor cellular traffic associated with a cellular subscriber device, and to generate detection output which includes at least one of: a type of an application associated with the cellular traffic of the cellular subscriber device, and a type of the cellular traffic of the cellular subscriber device. The cellular traffic monitoring system further includes a policy charging and enforcement function (PCEF) module to enforce one or more charging rules to the cellular subscriber device, based on the detection output.

Preference-aware content streaming

In some implementations, a telecommunications network can include a core network device communicatively connectable with user equipment (UE). The core network device can receive, via a network interface, an indication of a change to a user preference associated with the user device. The core network device can transmit a notification message including a pseudonymous identifier, the notification message based at least in part on the indication of the change. The UE can transmit, via a network interface, information of an account associated with the UE to a content provider. The information can include the pseudonymous identifier. The UE can then render content received from the content provider. The content provider can receive, via a network, the pseudonymous identifier and a request for content. The content provider can determine a quality setting associated with the pseudonymous identifier, and provide the content based at least in part on the quality setting.
