MEDICAL IMPLANT

An IM nail is positioned within a medullary canal and secured in position by bone screws. The nail includes bores which engage insert assemblies and engage the screws. Each insert assembly is in two parts. Part includes a head and a narrower neck; and similarly, part includes a head and a narrower neck. A bore extends through the assembly from one side to the other. Part of the assembly is engaged with a nail by insertion into the nail via mouth; and part is engaged with the nail by insertion into the nail via mouth. When in position the parts abut one another and define bore which can receive screws. The nail is made from a polyetheretherketone (PEEK)/carbon fibre composite. Parts of the insert assemblies are produced separately from the nail. They may be produced by injection moulding a polymeric composition comprising PEEK and barium sulphate.

Laser-marked medical components from elastomers

A medical device component is provided. The medical device component may include a body having a first surface being at least partially formed from a markable material having a first color, the markable material having a characteristic that an area exposed to laser irradiation of a predetermined wavelength of ultraviolet light changes to a second color different from the first color; a film covering at least a portion of the first surface of the body, the film having a transmittance at the predetermined wavelength of ultraviolet light of at least 5%; and a visible mark on the markable material at the first surface of the body covered by the film. The visible mark may include one or more areas of the markable material at the first surface having the second color. Methods of manufacturing the medical device component are also provided.

SHAPE MEMORY POLYMER-BASED DEVICES AND METHODS OF USE IN TREATING INTRACORPOREAL DEFECTS
20260041435 · 2026-02-12 ·

A novel shape memory polymer (SMP)-based device for surgical treatment of an intracorporeal defect (e.g., a void or anomaly) such as an intracranial aneurysm or fistula. In at least one non-limiting embodiment, the SMP device is a 3D-printed SMP material sized to specifically fit and thus occlude an intracranial aneurysm (ICA). The SMP device may be delivered to the intracorporeal defect via a catheter having a heating mechanism wherein the SMP device is raised above its glass transition temperature as it is deployed, causing the SMP device to return to its permanent shape after it is deployed into the intracorporeal defect. SMP device delivery systems that include the SMP devices, as well as methods of making and using the devices and systems, are also disclosed.
