System and method for facilitating appliance control via a smart device

A bridge device, in communication with a smart device, functions to command one or more controllable appliances in response to communications received from the smart device. The bridge device also includes input elements by which the bridge device can be used to directly command common functional operations of the one or more controllable appliances. In this manner, common functional operations, such as volume control, playback pause/resume control, etc., may be made readily available without necessitating the use of the smart device, whilst the more sophisticated GUI provided by the smart device remote control app may be advantageously utilized when more complex or less frequently used command functions are to be performed.

Image pickup device and image pickup method

A control method of an image pickup device is provided. The image pickup device includes a camera, a display, and a touch panel that is overlapped with the display and detects at least a sliding touch operation. The display displays a video image captured by the camera in first, second and third modes. The control method includes: switching to the second mode by a first sliding touch operation in a first direction on the touch panel in the first mode; switching to the third mode by a second sliding touch operation in the first direction in the second mode; switching to the second mode by a third sliding touch operation in a second direction in the third mode; and switching to the first mode by a fourth sliding touch operation in the second direction in the second mode. The second direction is substantially opposite to the first direction.

A method for controlling unlocking is provided. The method includes the following operations. A touch operation of a finger of user on a fingerprint recognition sensor of a terminal is detected. A first fingerprint image is received according to a preset capacity auto control (CAC) parameter corresponding to a default finger, the finger of the user is in the steady state. N second fingerprint images are received according to N sets of CAC parameters; N is an integer greater than 1. A target fingerprint image is determined and matched. The terminal is unlocked when the target fingerprint image is matched.

METHOD FOR LAUNCHING APPLICATION AND TERMINAL

A method and a terminal are provided for launching an application. The method includes acquiring a sliding trace of a sliding operation performed on a fingerprint recognition sensor of a terminal, acquiring a fingerprint image and matching the fingerprint image during the acquisition of the sliding trace, determining a target application corresponding to the sliding trace, and launching the target application when the fingerprint image is successfully matched.

Method and electronic device for controlling external electronic device

An example method for controlling an external electronic device of an electronic device, according to various embodiments, includes: receiving data information corresponding to at least one function of the external electronic device from an external electronic device connected to the electronic device; displaying a setting window for setting a user interface for controlling the external electronic device using the data information; selecting a control item corresponding to the at least one function included in the setting window according to user input reception; and setting and displaying the user interface corresponding to the selected control item.

An electronic apparatus and a controlling method thereof are provided. The method includes receiving a notification message regarding a content from an external server, displaying a notification message including the content provided from the external server and a user interface (UI) element regarding the content in one area of a notification area, in response to a user input being detected on the UI element, performing an operation corresponding to the selected UI element while the notification area is displayed, and displaying a graphic UI (GUI) corresponding to the operation on the notification message.

Electronic devices with sidewall displays

Electronic devices may be provided that contain flexible displays that are bent to form displays on multiple surfaces of the devices. Bent flexible displays may be bent to form front side displays and edge displays. Edge displays may be separated from front side displays or from other edge displays using patterned housing members, printed or painted masks, or by selectively activating and inactivating display pixels associated with the flexible display. Edge displays may alternately function as virtual buttons, virtual switches, or informational displays that are supplemental to front side displays. Virtual buttons may include transparent button members, lenses, haptic feedback components, audio feedback components, or other components for providing feedback to a user when virtual buttons are activated.

Force sensing system and method

A force sensing system for determining if a user input has occurred, the system comprising: an input channel, to receive an input from at least one force sensor; an activity detection stage, to monitor an activity level of the input from the at least one force sensor and, responsive to an activity level which may be indicative of a user input being reached, to generate an indication that an activity has occurred at the force sensor; and an event detection stage to receive said indication, and to determine if a user input has occurred based on the received input from the at least one force sensor.

A portable electronic device includes a three-axis acceleration sensor, a touch-sensing module, a processor, and a display screen. The three-axis acceleration sensor outputs a first sensing signal according to the state of motion. The touch-sensing module generates a touch-sensing signal according to the touch action of a touching object. The processor receives the first sensing signal and the touch-sensing signal, executes the user interface, and determines that the portable electronic device is in a state of motion when the first sensing signal is greater than a predetermined threshold. When the portable electronic device is in a state of motion, the processor continuously receives the touch-sensing signal and the user interface is in a normal mode rather than a call mode for longer than a predetermined time, the processor controls the display screen to decrease the brightness for entering a safe operation mode.
