REGION-BASED IMAGE COMPRESSION AND DECOMPRESSION

An apparatus for encoding an image and an apparatus for decoding an image are presented. An image contains one or more regions. For encoding the image, the image is decomposed into one or more regions and a region is evaluated to determine whether the region meets a predetermined compressions acceptability criteria. The region is then encoded in response to the transformed and quantized region meeting the predetermined compression acceptability criteria. For decoding the image, a region of the image is selected and the selected region is decoded using metadata associated with the selected region. The metadata includes transformation quantization settings and information describing an aspect ratio used to compress the region.

The present invention relates to an electronic device, and to a method for controlling a connection between an electronic device and a charging device, and a device for providing the same. To this end, the charging device of the present invention can comprise: a housing, which includes a first surface facing a first direction and a second surface facing a second direction different from the first direction, and is configured such that at least a part of the first surface comes in contact with a surface of a first electronic device; an electric conductive coil located within the housing so as to be closer to the first surface than the second surface; a wireless charging unit receiving power from an external power source, and including a charging circuit for wirelessly providing the power, having passed through the coil, to the first electronic device through the first surface; an electric connection unit exposed to the housing; a communication unit including a wireless communication circuit for supporting wireless communication with the first electronic device and allowing the wireless communication to have a predefined frequency range, and a wired communication circuit for receiving data from the first electronic device by using the wireless communication circuit, and transmitting the data to at least one second electronic device through the connection unit; and a processor for controlling, overall, an operation of the charging device in order to wirelessly charge the first electronic device.

Arithmetic decoding method and arithmetic coding method

An arithmetic decoding method is a method in which a context variable specifying a probability of a possible value of each of elements included in a binary string corresponding to a value of a given variable is initialized and arithmetic decoding is performed, using the context variable. The method includes: determining, from among a plurality of initialization methods as a method of initializing the context variable, an initialization method corresponding to the given variable or a group which includes the given variable; and initializing the context variable using the determined initialization method.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL NOISE REDUCTION

Systems and methods are disclosed for image signal processing. For example, methods may include receiving a current image of a sequence of images from an image sensor; combining the current image with a recirculated image to obtain a noise reduced image, where the recirculated image is based on one or more previous images of the sequence of images from the image sensor; determining a noise map for the noise reduced image, where the noise map is determined based on estimates of noise levels for pixels in the current image, a noise map for the recirculated image, and a set of mixing weights; recirculating the noise map with the noise reduced image to combine the noise reduced image with a next image of the sequence of images from the image sensor; and storing, displaying, or transmitting an output image that is based on the noise reduced image.

One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for correcting color values. The technique includes downsampling first color space values to generate downsampled color space values and upsampling the downsampled color space values to generate second color space values. The technique further includes modifying at least one component value included in the downsampled color space values based on a first component value included in the first color space values, a second component value included in the second color space values, and an approximation of a nonlinear transfer function.
