Mitigating authentication-based hacking of access restricted telecommunication services

Systems and method are provided for mitigating hacking of restricted access telecommunication services. In response to an authentication response from a user device, an authentication failure type and authentication failure frequency may be determined. Based on the authentication failure type and authentication failure frequency, the user device is blocked from accessing the telecommunication service for a predetermined period of time, preventing the service from being congested by recurring unauthorized users.

Use of network signaling (NS) values to cooperatively control spectral emission and additional functionality such as uplink/downlink subcarrier shifting

A method and system to help prevent legacy devices that do not support a service feature such as uplink-downlink subcarrier shifting from connecting with an access node on a carrier where the service feature should be applied. An example method involves use of Network Signaling (NS) values that are used for spectral emission control. Per the disclosure, the access node could broadcast an NS value that legacy device are not configured to understand but that newer devices are configured to understand as relating to both spectral emission limitation and also the service feature at issue. Responsive to the broadcast of that NS value, the legacy devices will therefore not connect with the access node, while the newer devices may connect with the access node and apply the service feature.

The invention provides a method performed by a home public land mobile network, PLMN, of controlling access of a user equipment, UE, device to a non-home PLMN when the UE device has an access to a non-trusted network and thereby a connection with the home PLMN via an interworking function entity, the method comprising in the event of the UE device requesting an attachment to the non-home PLMN, making in the home PLMN a decision as to whether control of the UE device should be handed over to the non-home PLMN; and communicating the decision to the non-home PLMN.

USING MULTIPLE CREDENTIALS FOR ACCESS AND TRAFFIC DIFFERENTIATION

The disclosure relates in some aspects to establishing connectivity with a network using a first set of credentials and determining whether additional connectivity needs to be established (e.g., using a second set of credentials) to communicate data. The disclosure relates in some aspects to the use of multiple credentials for access and service connectivity. For example, traffic generated by a device may be authorized based on a different set of credentials than the set of credentials used to access the network (e.g., to connect to an LTE network for a PDN connection). In this way, traffic belonging to a specific service or application can be charged and policed based on service specific needs. The disclosure thus relates in some aspects to the use of access credentials and service credentials. These different types of credentials can be used to enable traffic differentiation and policing based on the credentials in use.
