Method and Apparatus for Coverage Determination and Download Opportunity Notification

Disclosed herein are methods and apparatus for coverage determination and download opportunity notification. A method for content coverage determination and download opportunity includes obtaining, by a content coverage application running on a mobile device, an itinerary from a map application on the mobile device. The content coverage application sends the itinerary and mobile device characteristics to a coverage determination system and receives a wireless coverage profile based on the itinerary and the mobile device characteristics. The content coverage application generates a list of entertainment applications running on the mobile device. The content coverage application provides a notification of a wireless coverage gap based on the wireless coverage profile and displays the list of entertainment applications and status for each listed entertainment application in response to user input. The content coverage application sends instructions to one or more of the listed entertainment applications to download content in response to user selections.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PAGING PROCEDURES IN NEW RADIO (NR)

Methods and apparatuses are described herein for paging procedures in wireless systems. For example, a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) may monitor one or more physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs) for paging resources associated with a first subset of synchronization signal (SS) blocks that corresponds to a first beam tracking area (BTA). On a condition that at least one measurement of at least one beam associated with the first subset of SS blocks is less than a predetermined threshold, the WTRU may transmit, to a base station (BS), a signal indicating a second BTA that is associated with a second subset of SS blocks. The signal includes a physical random access channel (PRACH) resource associated with a second group of SS blocks that corresponds to the second BTA.

Adaptive paging techniques for extended coverage-capable devices

Adaptive paging techniques for EC-capable devices are described. In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise at least one memory and logic for an evolved node B (eNB), at least a portion of the logic comprised in hardware coupled to the at least one memory, the logic to receive an S1 paging message comprising a user equipment (UE) identifier (ID) associated with a UE and an extended coverage (EC) capability indicator indicating that the UE is EC-capable and page the UE using an EC paging sequence based on receipt of the S1 paging message, the EC paging sequence to comprise a series of transmissions of a radio resource control (RRC) paging message, the logic to truncate the EC paging sequence based on a determination that the UE has responded to RRC paging. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MAPPING BEAM PATTERN TO PAGING RESOURCES

Paging for a base station (12) operating in a wireless communication system and using multiple transmit beams includes transmitting a synchronization signal burst set by a beam sweep according to a first beam pattern. The base station determines an allocation of paging resources for a second beam pattern for a paging operation according to a predetermined mapping based on the first beam pattern. The base station transmits a paging message according to the second beam pattern using paging resources determined with the predetermined mapping.

RAN area ID configuration

A method comprising configuring a user equipment in a low activity state to operate within a radio access network wherein a radio access network notification area for the user equipment is defined based on a list of logically associated radio access network paging areas, wherein each of the logically associated radio access network paging areas is a subset of a core network tracking area identified by a paging area code value which is unique within the core network associated tracking area.

A base station generates, e.g., based on current UE and current system information, a UE specific paging priority list for an idle or inactive mode UE identifying a set of (small cell base) stations which are to be used to subsequently page the UE. The base station communicates the paging priority list to the UE in a radio resource control release message. In some embodiments, the release message further conveys information indicating a maximum paging monitoring duration and/or a maximum number of paging cells to be monitored. The UE receives the release message and transitions into idle or inactive mode. The UE uses the communicated information to perform efficient paging, identifying which small cells are potential sources of a paging signal, and determine how long to monitor for a paging signal.

Coordination of Simultaneous Multi-RAT Camping

The present invention relates to the coordination of simultaneous multi-RAT camping in in a wireless communication network that provides radio access for a terminal device via at least a first and second wireless radio access operating with different radio access technologies. The improved multi-RAT camping is achieved by transmitting, by a network node, an indication regarding a set of camping areas, CAs, including a first set of camping areas being associated with the first RAT and a second set of camping areas being associated with the second RAT; performing, by the terminal device, camping in a coverage area defined based on the set of CAs; and updating, by the terminal device, the communication network with a geographic location of the terminal device a) when the terminal device enters a new coverage area being different from the coverage area defined by both the first and second set of CAs as a first mechanism, or b) when the terminal device enters a new coverage area being different from the coverage area defined by one of the first and second set of CAs as a second mechanism.
