LOCATION SHARING APPLICATION IN ASSOCIATION WITH SERVICES PROVISION
A system for exchanging GPS or other position data between wireless devices for purposes of group activities, child location monitoring, work group coordination, dispatching of employees etc. Cell phones and other wireless devices with GPS receivers have loaded therein a Buddy Watch application and a TalkControl application. The Buddy Watch application communicates with the GPS receiver and other wireless devices operated by buddies registered in the users phone as part of buddy groups or individually. GPS position data and historical GPS position data can be exchanged between cell phones of buddies and instant buddies such as tow truck drivers via a buddy watch server. Emergency monitoring services can be set up with notifications to programmable individuals in case an individual does not respond. Positions and tracks can be displayed. TalkControl simplifies and automates the process of joining talk groups for walkie talkie services such as that provided by Nextel.

Wake-up radio assisted WLAN power saving technologies
A dual-radio AP including both a high-power (e.g., Wi-Fi) radio and a low-power (e.g., BLE) radio may support an assisted wakeup service for a power-limited dual-radio mobile device (STA). The power-limited STA may register with the AP for the assisted wakeup service, and may then disable its Wi-Fi radio (or otherwise initiate a lower-power mode). The power-limited STA may receive a BLE communication indicating the AP has pending Wi-Fi transmissions or updates applicable to the power-limited STA. In response, the power-limited STA may turn on its Wi-Fi radio and receive the pending transmissions or updates from the AP. If an AP does not include a low-power radio, then a high-power/low-power dual-radio STA that is not power-limited may serve as an assisted wakeup service proxy. The proxy may scan and trace the Wi-Fi beacons from the AP, and generate the BLE communication to the power-limited STA on behalf of the AP.
Wireless communication system to deliver pages to wireless communication devices based on wireless fidelity network identifiers
A wireless communication system to deliver pages to wireless communication devices based on a Wireless Fidelity (WIFI) network identifier. Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) access points exchange wireless communications to serve a wireless communication device and transfer corresponding service messages to a paging control system. The paging control system processes the service messages to identify the current OFDM access point serving the wireless communication device. A WIFI gateway system receives a series of authorization requests for the wireless communication device to access a series of WIFI communication networks. The authorization requests indicate WIFI network identifiers. The WIFI gateway system transfers WIFI access authorizations to the WIFI communication networks. The wireless communication device is idle on the OFDM access points when on a WIFI communication network. In response to receiving the authorization requests, the WIFI gateway system translates the WIFI network identifiers into corresponding OFDM access point identifiers and transfers the corresponding OFDM access point identifiers to the paging control system. The paging control system processes the corresponding OFDM access point identifiers to identify the current OFDM access point serving the wireless communication device when the wireless communication device is idle on the OFDM network.

Network initiated inter-RAT handover
A method of handing over a User Equipment, UE, from a first type of Radio Access Technology, RAT, to a second type of RAT, wherein said UE is attached to a core network via a Radio Access Network, RAN, utilizing said first type of RAT, said method comprising the steps of receiving, by a Mobility Management node in said core network from a network function in said core network, an indication that a particular service is to be invoked for said UE, determining, by said Mobility Management node, that said UE is to be handed over from said first type of RAT to said second type of RAT for supporting said particular service and requesting, by said Mobility Management node, said RAN to hand over said UE from said first RAT to said second RAT.
Service-based, separated access and paging cell selection and reselection
Systems and techniques are disclosed to separate paging and access cell selection (and use) among available cells based on different paging cell and access cell requirements and specific service availability. A UE selects a first cell that meets paging cell requirements as a paging cell and a second cell that meets service requirements as an access cell. Once the UE selects a paging cell, the UE camps on the paging cell to wait for a paging request or a mobile originated request. The UE can select and camp on the access cell prior to a data need, where latency requirements are strict, or delay access cell selection until there is data to transmit where latency requirements are more lax. The UE may also include measurement information of surrounding cells with a paging response/service request, which a core network uses to speed up establishment of dual connectivity or carrier aggregation.
