Capacitive cable for a downhole electro-hydraulic tool
A capacitive cable, as well as a method for operating a downhole electro-hydraulic (EH) tool using the capacitive cable, are described herein. The capacitive cable includes at least one standard conductor and at least one capacitive conductor including integrated wire-shaped capacitors. The method includes inserting a tool string including the capacitive cable and an attached downhole EH tool into a wellbore and conducting power from the surface to the downhole EH tool via the standard conductor(s) of the capacitive cable. The method also includes storing electrical energy downhole within the capacitive conductor(s) of the capacitive cable, and activating the downhole EH tool to provide for the rapid release of the electrical energy from the capacitive conductor(s) into the downhole EH tool, initiating an electro-hydraulic event within the wellbore.
DOWNHOLE CABLE WITH REDUCED DIAMETER
An optical/electrical cable for downhole environments includes a plurality of optical fibers disposed within an interior metal tube. An electrically conducting layer surrounds the interior metal tube, an insulation layer surrounds and contacts the electrically conducting layer, and an exterior metal tube surrounds and contacts the insulation layer.
GAS RESISTANT POTHEAD SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ELECTRIC SUBMERSIBLE MOTORS
A gas resistant pothead system and method for electric submersible motors. A gas resistant pothead system includes a lead foil wrapped motor lead cable (MLE) extending through a pothead, a sleeve of an insulator block inside the pothead, the sleeve including gold plating and lead-foil wrapping over the gold plating, and a lead-to-gold seal formed between the gold plating of the sleeve and the lead foil wrapping over the gold plating. A method of creating a seal to gas around a power cable connection to a downhole electric submersible motor includes wrapping lead foil around a MLE extending through a pothead, continuing the lead foil wrapping around a gold-plated sleeve of an insulating block inside the pothead, mechanically reinforcing the lead foil with an encapsulant, and bonding the lead foil to the gold plating of the insulating block.
CONDUCTOR AND CONDUIT SYSTEMS
A downhole cable is made from a copper clad steel conductor, to which an insulator layer is applied to, and then a plurality of thin wall layers is applied around the insulator layer. Each of the thin wall layer is joined and sealed along a longitudinal seam by welding, and swaged to fit against the previous layer.
Cable having polymer with additive for increased linear pullout resistance
A method of using a down-hole cable apparatus includes placing the down-hole cable apparatus in an operational position. The down-hole cable apparatus includes a metal tube, at least one conductor positioned within the metal tube, an armor shell positioned exterior of the metal tube and the at least one conductor, and a polymer material abutting the metal tube. The polymer material has at least one additive andremains substantially inert during a recrystallization process. The down-hole cable apparatus is subjected to an operational catalyst, during which time the polymer material having the at least one additive remains substantially inert. The inertia prevents linear separation of at least one of the at least one conductor and the armor shell from the metal.
Reduced torque wireline cable
A wireline cable includes an electrically conductive cable core for transmitting electrical power. The wireline cable further includes an inner layer of a plurality of first armor wires surrounding the cable core and an outer layer of a plurality of second armor wires surrounding the inner layer, wherein a diameter of the outer layer of the plurality of second armor wires is smaller than a diameter of the inner layer of the plurality of first armor wires.
Downhole cables and methods of making the same
A downhole cable that has a cable core with an inner jacket located about it. The inner jacket has a shell located thereabout, and a pair of strength member layers surrounds the inner shell. Interstitial spaces of the strength member layers are filled with bonding layers. One of the strength member layers is at a contra-helical lay angle to the other. An outer jacket is located about one of the strength member layers, and the outer jacket is bonded with the bonding layers.
DOWNHOLE CABLES AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME
A method and method of using a cable that includes a cable core. The cable core has an inner armor wire layer disposed thereabout. The inner armor wire layer has an outer armor wire layer disposed thereabout. The inner armor wire layer and outer armor wire layer have torque removed therefrom during manufacturing.
CABLE AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME
A cable that has a cable core with a first armor wire layer and a second armor wire layer. The second armor wire layer is segregated from the first armor wire layer, and an outer jacket is disposed about the second armor wire layer.
