Since the magnetic sheet is adopted as the coil component, magnetic saturation is likely to occur in the magnetic sheet, and it is considered that the DC superimposition characteristic of the coil component is deteriorated. However, since the inner edge of the coil structure backs down with respect to the inner edge of the magnetic sheet so that the magnetic flux generated in the coil easily circulates, the deterioration of the DC superimposition characteristics due to the adoption of the magnetic sheet is suppressed.

A coil component includes a base body, a coil conductor disposed in or on the base body, a first external electrode electrically connected to the coil conductor, and a second external electrode electrically connected to the coil conductor. The base body includes a first metal magnetic particle group and a second metal magnetic particle group. The first metal magnetic particle group is composed of plural first metal magnetic particles each including Fe, and the second metal magnetic particle group is composed of plural second metal magnetic particles each including Fe. The first metal magnetic particle group has a first average particle size and a first degree of circularity of 0.75 or higher. The second metal magnetic particle group has a second average particle size smaller than the first average particle size and a second average degree of circularity larger than the first average degree of circularity.

A coil component includes a body having a first surface and a second surface opposing in a thickness direction, and a first side surface and a second side surface opposing in a width direction while each connecting the first surface and the second surface to each other. A coil unit is disposed in the body. First and second external electrodes are disposed to be spaced apart from each other on the body, while respectively being connected to the coil unit. A cover portion disposed on the second surface of the body and at least partially covering the first and second external electrodes. A cross-section perpendicular to the first surface of the body and parallel to the width direction and traversing the body and the cover portion has substantially the same size in the width direction and in the thickness direction.

In an exemplary embodiment, a coil component includes: an element body part 10 that is formed containing a magnetic material; a coil 40 that is embedded within the element body part 10 and constituted by a wound conductive wire; lead wires 44a, 44b that are extended from the conductive wire and are led out from the coil 40; and terminal parts 70a, 70b that are joined to the lead wires 44a, 44b; wherein tip parts 46a, 46b of the lead wires 44a, 44b, each having a prescribed length from the tip, are embedded in the element body part 10 and also extend along the bottom face 22 of the element body part 10, and the terminal parts 70a, 70b are joined to the tip parts 46a, 46b of the lead wires 44a, 44b on the bottom face 22 of the element body part 10.

An inductor includes an integrated preform having a coil installed thereinside. The coil includes extension portions extending from two stages of a spiral wound portion. The integrated preform is formed by bonding together first and second preforms. The first and/or second preform is shaped like a housing including a plate-shaped bottom, a wall provided around the periphery of the bottom portion, and two cut out portions provided in the wall. The extension portions extend to outside the integrated preform via the cut out portions. The difference between a first distance from a reference surface, which is the bottom surface of the bottom of the first or second preform, to a bottom surface of one cut out portion and a second distance from the reference surface to the bottom surface of the other cut out portion is substantially an integer multiple of the width of the flat wire.

A soft magnetic metal powder or the like from which a soft magnetic metal fired body can be provided has a high magnetic permeability μ and a specific resistance ρ and is contained in a coil-type electronic component having sufficiently high inductance L and Q value and unlikely to be plating-extended and short-circuited. A soft magnetic metal powder contains soft magnetic metal particles containing at least Fe and Ni. Said soft magnetic metal powder further contains P, Si, Cr and/or M. M is at least one selected from among B, Co, Mn, Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Mo, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn, Al, and rare earth elements. The content of each element is within a predetermined range.
