Low dose prefilled drug delivery device and method
A drug delivery device (100) for administering a low dose of a medicament includes a housing (111) and a drug reservoir (101) disposed in the housing (111). A needle (135) is connected to the drug reservoir (101). A pressure applying member (113) is movably connected to the housing (111) and is movable between first and second positions. The pressure applying member (113) does not apply pressure to the drug reservoir (101) in the first position and applies pressure to the drug reservoir (101) in the second position to dispense medicament stored in the drug reservoir (101). A method of administering a low dose of insulin to simulate a first-phase insulin response of a pancreas is also disclosed.
Autoinjector
Described is an autoinjector comprising a front case having a first rib and a second rib, and a rear case telescopically coupled to the front case and having latch arms adapted to engage the first rib and the second rib. When the front case is in a first position relative to rear case, the latch arms are engaged to the first rib. When the latch arms disengage the first rib, the front case translates to a second position relative to the rear case, an axial distance between the front case and the rear case increases relative to the first position, the latch arms engage the second rib.
Electromechanical manipulating device for medical needle and syringe with sensory biofeedback and pain suppression capability
In an aspect, a medication delivering injector which includes a housing having opposing proximal and distal ends and an accessible internal cavity for inserting and removing a medicament container such as a syringe. The injector is designed to hold and manipulate a medication delivery device such as a large variety of standard and non-standard medical syringes with fixed or attached needles, assembled such that centrally located is a cylinder containing a liquid medicament and attached either permanently or removably to the distal end of the cylinder, is a hypodermic needle or cannula in fluidic communication with the cylinder. The needle can be from one-half inches to one-and-one-half inches in length in the illustrated embodiment and other sizes are possible by changes in scale of the injector. At the proximal end of the cylinder is an opening with an inserted seal or bung with an attached rod thus constituting a plunger. The central medicament containing cylinder could also be a standard medicament cartridge. Hereinafter, both are referred to as a “syringe”. A lid or access cover which, in an open position permits insertion and removal of the syringe into/from the housing in a horizontal fashion thus providing ease of loading. The syringe is inserted with the needle end toward the distal end of the housing and the plunger toward the proximal end of the housing. A movable carriage is disposed in the proximal end of the housing and slides in the axial direction forwards and rearwards such that a syringe, whose proximal end is gripped by the carriage, so moves with the carriage such that the needle exits the housing at the distal end of the housing and pierces the tissue of the patient prior to dispensing of the medicament, and then is retracted after the medicament has been dispensed by retraction of the carriage. Attached to the carriage is an actuator which pushes on the syringe plunger causing the medicament contained within the syringe cylinder to be dispensed through the needle into the patient's tissue. In one embodiment suitable for both removable needle and fixed needle syringes, the proximal end of the syringe including the syringe finger flange is gripped by an elastomeric flange grip which resides within the carriage, while the syringe distal end resides in and is supported by a “syringe guide” which is attached to the carriage and thus moved with it. In another embodiment which is so made to accommodate syringes with removable needles and their safe disposal, the syringe flange at the proximal end of the cylinder is gripped by an elastomeric flange grip which resides in the carriage as described above, while the syringe distal end is s
Medicament Delivery System
A medicament delivery system is described. Embodiments of the medicament delivery system can include a smart user device and a medicament delivery assembly. The medicament delivery assembly can be implemented as a single-use cartridge that can be removably coupled to the smart user device. The smart user device can be configured to determine when to automatically administer a medicament stored in the medicament delivery assembly.
Injector Device
An injector device for the percutaneous injection of fluids, such as medications, is disclosed. The device can have a mobile phone case. The mobile phone case can hold an auto-injector cartridge having a trigger, spring-loaded needle and reservoir holding a medication such as epinephrine or insulin. The device mobile phone case can communicate injection data to the phone. The phone can communicate the injection data to an emergency service provider.
A Medicament Delivery Device
A device (1) for delivering an injectable drug to a patient for example from a conventional syringe (37) with a hypodermic needle. The device (1) provides to a user an audible, visible and/or tactile end of dose indication after all of the medicament has been delivered. The end of dose indication can be provided by releasing energy stored within an energy storage means (3d), energy having been imparted to the energy storage means (39) during the delivery of the injectable drug. The energy storage means (3d) acts upon an end of dose indicator (41) which interacts with another part of the device (1), for example an external housing (3), to produce the end of dose indication.
AN INJECTION NEEDLE ASSEMBLY FOR AN INJECTION DEVICE AND AN INJECTION DEVICE COMPRISING SUCH ASSEMBLY
An injection needle assembly (50) for an injection device, comprising: a) a needle cannula (3) attached to a needle hub (4) and defining a pointed tip at a free end (3a, 3b), and b) a needle cover (10, 10a, 10b) forming an axially extending elongated flexible enclosure accommodating the needle cannula (3). The needle cover (10, 10a, 10b) is configured to axially collapse and become penetrated by the needle cannula (3) when a penetration force is applied to the needle cover. The needle cover (10, 10a, 10b) defines a shaft section (11a) and a bulb section (11b). The shaft section (11a) encircles the needle cannula (3) and extends axially from the needle hub (4) to the bulb section (11b). The shaft section (11a) comprises wall areas of minimum wall thickness t.sub.1 whereas the bulb section (11b) comprises wall areas (17a, 17b) having a wall thickness t.sub.2 larger than said minimum wall thickness t.sub.1. The shaft section (11a) comprises one or more reinforcing ribs (16), each reinforcing rib extending non-parallel to the needle axis so as to at least partly encircle the needle cannula (3), wherein each reinforcing rib (16) divides adjoining annular collapse regions (15) of the shaft section (11a).
INJECTION DEVICE
