20200027678 · 2020-01-23 · ·

A trip assembly is for an electrical switching apparatus. The electrical switching apparatus has a base, a pair of separable contacts, and a trip bar structured to cooperate with the separable contacts in order to trip open the separable contacts. The trip assembly includes a housing member structured to be coupled to the base, and an lockout assembly having an actuation member and a locking member each coupled to the housing member. The actuation member is configured to engage the trip bar in order to trip open the separable contacts. The lockout assembly is structured to move between a FIRST position corresponding to the separable contacts being closed, and a SECOND position corresponding to the separable contacts being open. When the lockout assembly is in the SECOND position, the locking member engages the actuation member in order to maintain the separable contacts in the open position.

A circuit interrupter includes a stationary contact and a moveable contact disposed on a moveable contact arm, the moveable contact being configured to be pivotable into and out of physical contact with the stationary contact by pivoting of the moveable contact arm about an axis. The moveable contact arm defines a pivot angle with respect to the stationary contact as the moveable contact arm pivots about the axis. A biasing member exerts a biasing force on the moveable contact arm which pivotally biases the moveable contact toward the stationary contact when the pivot angle is less than a zero-bias angle and which pivotally biases the moveable contact away from the stationary contact when the pivot angle is greater than a zero-bias angle.

Circuit breaker tripping mechanism

A tripping mechanism for a circuit breaker comprises a connecting rod assembly and a control assembly, wherein one end of the connecting rod assembly is connected with a rotating shaft assembly for driving the circuit breaker to be switched off in a driving manner, and the other end of the connecting rod assembly is provided with a jump pin which can be connected with the control assembly in a latching manner, and the jump pin is also provided with a U-shaped groove. The control assembly comprises a switching-off latch which is rotatably mounted. The end part of the switching-off latch can be connected with the U-shaped groove in a latching and limiting manner, and the circuit breaker triggers the end part of the switching-off latch to be tripped from the U-shaped groove when being switched off, and therefore the rotating shaft assembly connected with the connecting rod assembly drives the circuit breaker to be switched off. The tripping mechanism for the circuit breaker, which is provided by the present invention, is stable in latching, simple in structure and accurate in action.

A miniature circuit breaker with an automatic opening/closing function, comprising a circuit breaker body and an automatic opening/closing driving mechanism; the body comprises circuit breakers, each comprising a plastic housing, an opening/closing handle and a manipulation mechanism; a spindle hole is at the rotation center of each handle; the driving mechanism comprises a case, a driving motor with a driving turbine, a linkage turbine, a linkage gear, an output spindle and a release linkage member; the driving motor drives the linkage turbine for reciprocating rotation via the driving turbine, and the linkage turbine drives the release linkage member for reciprocating rotation within a preset angle range via a cam linkage so that a lever of the release linkage member prods an opening release linkage rod to perform a rapid opening action; the linkage turbine drives the linkage gear and the output spindle to do synchronous rotation via driving teeth.

Selective Coordination of Solid-State Circuit Breakers and Mechanical Circuit Breakers in Electrical Distribution Systems
20190341213 · 2019-11-07 · ·

In an electrical distribution system including a solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) and one or more downstream mechanical circuit breakers (CBs), a solid-state switching device in the SSCB is repeatedly switched ON and OFF during a short circuit event, to reduce a root-mean-square (RMS) value of the short circuit current. The resulting pulsed short circuit current is regulated in a hysteresis control loop, to limit the RMS to a value low enough to prevent the SSCB from tripping prematurely but high enough to allow one of the downstream mechanical CBs to trip and isolate the short circuit. Pulsing is allowed to continue for a maximum short circuit pulsing time. Only if none of the downstream mechanical CBs is able to trip to isolate the short circuit within the maximum short circuit pulsing time is the SSCB allowed to trip.

CIRCUIT BREAKER INCLUDING A REMOTE ON/OFF BREAKER

A circuit breaker is configured to be remotely caused to enter ON and OFF states. A lever arm is pivotably coupled to a main contact spring. A contact is supported at the distal end portion of the lever arm. Pivoting of the lever arm to bring the contact into contact with another contact on the housing causes the circuit breaker to enter the ON state. Pivoting of the lever arm to separate the contacts causes the circuit breaker to enter the OFF state. A latching solenoid includes a plunger coupled to the lever arm. The latching solenoid moves the plunger between a retracted configuration and an extended configuration. When in the extended position, the lever arm is pivoted to separate the contacts to cause the circuit breaker to enter the OFF state.
