Charged particle source
This invention provides a charged particle source, which comprises an emitter and means for generating a magnetic field distribution. The magnetic field distribution is minimum, about zero, or preferred zero at the tip of the emitter, and along the optical axis is maximum away from the tip immediately. In a preferred embodiment, the magnetic field distribution is provided by dual magnetic lens which provides an anti-symmetric magnetic field at the tip, such that magnetic field at the tip is zero.

Integrated transmission electron microscope
An integrated transmission electron microscope comprising multiple electron sources for tuned beams of ultrafast, scanning probe, and parallel illumination in varied beam energies can be alternated within sub-microseconds onto a sample with dynamic ‘transient state’ processes to acquire atomic-scale structural/chemical data with site specificity. The various electron sources and condenser optics enable high-resolution imaging, high-temporal resolution imaging, and chemical imaging, using fast-switching magnets to direct the different electron beams onto a single maneuverable objective pole piece where the sample resides. Such multimodal in situ characterization tools housed in a single microscope have the potential to revolutionize materials science.
METHOD OF RECORDING AN IMAGE USING A PARTICLE MICROSCOPE
A method, including: recording plural images of an object by scanning plural particle beams across the object and detecting signals generated by the particle beams, wherein the plural particle beams are generated by a multi-beam particle microscope; determining plural regions of interest; determining plural image regions in each of the recorded images; determining plural displacement vectors; and determining image distortions based on image data of the recorded images and the determined displacement vectors.

A height measuring device includes a light source that emits light in a direction oblique to a top surface of a specimen, a slit that shapes the light from the light source to form a slit image on the specimen, an imaging element that detects reflected light reflected by the specimen, and an arithmetic unit. The arithmetic unit: identifies a slit image of the reflected light reflected by the top surface of the specimen from among a plurality of slit images based on respective positions of the plurality of slit images on a detection surface of the imaging element; and determines the height of the top surface of the specimen based on the position of the slit image of the reflected light reflected by the top surface of the specimen on the detection surface.
