An apparatus includes a tube configured for insertion into a body of a subject, the tube comprising a plurality of strips, which are angled obliquely with respect to a longitudinal axis of the tube, by virtue of the tube being shaped to define a plurality of slits having respective oblique proximal ends and respective oblique distal ends. The distal end of each of the slits is nested between the proximal end of a first other one of the slits and the proximal end of a second other one of the slits such that (i) one of the strips is disposed between the distal end of the slit and the proximal end of the first other one of the slits, and (ii) another one of the strips is disposed between the distal end of the slit and the proximal end of the second other one of the slits.

DYNAMICALLY RIGIDIZING COMPOSITE MEDICAL STRUCTURES

A rigidizing device includes an elongate flexible tube, a braid layer positioned over the elongate flexible tube, an outer layer over the flexible tube and the braid layer, and an inlet between the elongate flexible tube and the outer layer and configured to attach to a source of vacuum or pressure. The braid layer has a plurality of strands braided together at a braid angle of 5-40 degrees relative to a longitudinal axis of the elongate flexible tube when the elongate flexible tube is straight. The rigidizing device is configured to have a rigid configuration when vacuum or pressure is applied through the inlet and a flexible configuration when vacuum or pressure is not applied through the inlet. The braid angle is configured to change as the rigidizing device bends when the rigidizing device is in the flexible configuration.

A guide wire includes a first core shaft, a second core shaft, a first tubular member, and a second tubular member. The first tubular member is disposed to cover (i) a contact portion where the first core shaft and the second core shaft are arranged opposite to each other so that their central axes coincide, and (ii) a part of each of the first core shaft and the second core shaft, the part being adjacent to the contact portion. The second tubular member, having a tubular shape, covers at least the first tubular member and is fixed to both the first core shaft and the second core shaft.

Tip adjustable stylet

Present invention is a tip adjustable stylet to be inserted into a tubular structure and to be pushed out its distal aperture to form curvatures. The device comprises a bendable member, a retracting string, an intersegment and a control handle. The bendable member has a control ring at its proximal end and a tip at its distal end. An operator can push the bendable member distally from the proximal end along the lumen of the tubular structure. Predetermined extensibility and length of the retracing string limit distance of the bendable member being pushed and hold the distal portion of the bendable member backward when the bendable member is been pushed forward outside of the tubular structure's distal aperture, thereby to bend the distal portion of the bendable member into the curves therefore to move its tip to a target location, such as patient's vocal cords opening.

Guidewire devices having distally extending coils and shapeable tips

The present disclosure relates to guidewire devices having shapeable tips and effective torquability. A guidewire device includes a core having a proximal section and a tapered distal section. A tube structure is coupled to the core such that the tapered distal section of the core extends into and distally beyond the tube structure. The portion of the core extending distally beyond the tube forms a shapeable tip. One or more coils also extend distally beyond the tube. The tip is configured to reduce the tendency of resilient forces from the tube structure to disrupt a customized shape of the tip.
