A lithium-sulfur battery includes a casing, a top lid circumferentially welded to the casing, a negative contact surface positioned opposite the top lid, a positive terminal disposed within the casing, welded to the top lid, and configured as a mandrel, a glass insulator circumferentially wound around the mandrel, and a jelly roll including at least an anode and a cathode wound around the mandrel. The jelly roll may also include a top surface not in contact with the top lid, a bottom surface partially in contact with the negative contact surface, and partially in contact with a plurality of non-hollow carbonaceous spherical particles disposed between the bottom surface of the jelly roll and the negative contact surface. At least some of the non-hollow carbonaceous spherical particles may provide one or more electrically-conductive pathways between the bottom surface and the negative contact surface.

The present invention relates to a non-aqueous electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery and a lithium secondary battery comprising the same, the non-aqueous electrolyte comprising a non-aqueous organic solvent, a lithium salt, a first additive including at least one of compounds represented by chemical formulas 1 to 4, and a second additive comprising a cyclic sulfide-based compound, wherein the mixing ratio of the first additive and the second additive is a weight ratio of 0.2:1 to 10:1.

Nitrogen-containing compounds as additives for silicon-based Li-ion batteries
Additives for energy storage devices comprising nitrogen-containing compounds are disclosed. The energy storage device comprises a first electrode and a second electrode, where at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode is a Si-based electrode, a separator between the first electrode and the second electrode, and an electrolyte composition. Nitrogen-containing compounds may serve as additives to the first electrode, the second electrode, and/or the electrolyte, as well as the separator.

A lithium ion secondary battery includes: a cathode; an anode: a separator; and an electrolytic solution containing lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF.sub.6) as a lithium salt, wherein the cathode includes a current collector and a cathode mixture formed on the current collector, and wherein the cathode mixture contains an aluminum oxide, a part or an entirety of a surface of the aluminum oxide being coated with carbon.

An electrolyte solution includes a solvent; an electrolyte salt; and a LA:LB complex represented by the following general formula I: [(FnA)x-L] (I) In formula I, A is boron or phosphorous, F is fluorine, L is an aprotic organic amine, n is 3 or 5, when n=3, A is boron, and when n=5, A is phosphorous, x is an integer from 1-3, and at least one N atom of the aprotic organic amine, L, is bonded directly to A. The LA:LB complex is present in the solution in an amount of between 0.01 and 5.0 wt. %, based on the total weight of the electrolyte solution.

METHOD OF INCREASING SECONDARY POWER SOURCE CAPACITY
A method of increasing secondary power source capacity includes doping a compound into an electrolyte as an additive which binding energy is higher than binding energy of combinations that are formed at a secondary power source discharge, the compound being ZnKr or CdAr. The method can be used in manufacturing secondary power sources such as batteries for electrical machines, transport vehicles, and cars, and for power sources for portable and mobile electronic devices.

One mode of the present invention is a nonaqueous electrolyte for an energy storage device, containing an additive represented by the following Formula (1) or Formula (2). In Formula (1), R.sup.1 to R.sup.4 are each independently a hydrogen atom or a group represented by —NR.sup.a.sub.2, —OR.sup.a, —SR.sup.a, etc., with the proviso that at least one of R.sup.1 to R.sup.4 is a group represented by —OR.sup.a, —SR.sup.a, —COOR.sup.a, —COR.sup.a, —SO.sub.2R.sup.a, or —SO.sub.3R.sup.a. In Formula (2), R.sup.5 to R.sup.7 are each independently a hydrogen atom or a group represented by —NR.sup.b.sub.2, —OR.sup.b, or —SR.sup.b, with the proviso that at least one of R.sup.5 to R.sup.7 is a group represented by —SR.sup.b. ##STR00001##
