Enhanced liquid detection mechanisms for circuit cards

Enhanced short circuit damage protection by using circuit card and electronic assembly features to steer liquids, including water, onto detector arrays. In a typical implementation, a circuit card has detection elements in one or more places implemented as artwork on an outer circuit layer. The finished circuit card assembly is conformal coated with masked areas over detection artwork. When the masking is removed, channels are left behind for liquids to flow toward and pool over detection artwork. In other implementations through shaping, additive or subtractive manufacturing processes, cavities are left behind for liquids to collect over detection artwork.

An interface control circuit comprises an interface signal transceiver circuit coupled with an interface which includes at least one interface pin for transmitting and/or receiving an interface signal through the interface, and a protection circuit for generating a protection control signal according to a capacitance of a first interface pin. During a predetermined detection time period starting from an attaching event, the protection circuit senses the capacitance of the first interface pin, and determines that there is an electrolytic substance existing and coupled with the first interface pin when the capacitance is larger than a predetermined first capacitance threshold. The protection control signal triggers the interface signal transceiver circuit to execute a protection operation. The interface includes the first interface pin and the second interface pin, and the first interface pin and the second interface pin can be one same pin or separate different pins.

Preventing water damage in portable devices

A shut-off circuit interrupts the flow of power to the system circuit of a portable device, when liquids are detected within the portable device. Liquid sensors are placed proximate to the ports of the portable device. The ports may admit the flow of liquids, so the liquid sensors may detect the passage of liquids into the portable device. If the liquid sensors detect liquids entering the portable device, a shut-off circuit interrupts the flow of power from the battery to the system circuit.

Moisture sensors

A moisture sensor includes one or more electrodes and sensor circuitry configured to detect the presence of moisture by detecting a change in an electrical measurement of the one or more electrodes. In response, the sensor may signal a component to perform an action. In some examples, capacitance and/or resistance between a pair of electrodes may be monitored, such as a pair of electrode sheets or meshes positioned in passage of a device that are separated by a gap. In various examples, a first electrode may be mounted cantilever to a second electrode and the presence of moisture between the electrodes may pull a free end closer to the second electrode. In some examples, the presence of moisture may cause bridging of a gap between two or more electrodes to complete or corrosion of a portion of an electrode to result in a change of resistance that can be detected.

Moisture ingress sensors

This application relates to a moisture ingress sensor. In particular, this application relates to a moisture ingress sensor that can detect liquid ingress into an electronic device. The moisture ingress sensor can include a resistor, an N-channel MOSFET, an operation amplifier, comparators, and an AND logic gate. The moisture ingress sensor is configured to provide a lower power means for accurately detecting moisture in an electronic device. Multiple areas of the electronic device can include the moisture ingress sensor in order to optimize the detection of moisture for at a variety of regions of the electronic device. Additionally, the electronic device can record signals from the moisture ingress sensor and shut down components of the electronic device that could be affected by the detected moisture. Furthermore, the moisture ingress sensor can be tuned to detect one or more types of liquids.

Terminal protection method, apparatus, and electronic device

A terminal protection method that is applied to a terminal is provided. In the method, an air pressure change value collected by an air pressure sensor is obtained; the air pressure change value is compared with a preset air pressure change threshold; and when the air pressure change value exceeds the preset air pressure change threshold, a break instruction is generated, where the break instruction is used to break a power supply circuit of a mainboard circuit of the terminal. According to the terminal protection method provided in the present invention, the power supply circuit of the mainboard circuit of the terminal can be timely broken when the terminal falls into water, thereby solving a problem of a short circuit that occurs on the mainboard circuit of the terminal after the terminal falls into water.
