The cassette also includes at least one reciprocating pressure displacement membrane pump within the housing. The pressure pump pumps a fluid from the fluid inlet line to the fluid outlet line. A hollow spike is also included on the housing as well as at least one metering pump The metering pump is fluidly connected to the hollow spike on the housing and to a metering pump fluid line. The metering pump fluid line is fluidly connected to the fluid outlet line.
CHAMBER FOR ARTIFICIAL CIRCULATORY ASSISTANCE AND MEMBRANE
A novel artificial circulatory assistance chamber for various uses associated with cardiovascular procedures, having a rigid capsule with a base and a dome, with blood inlet connectors and blood outlet connectors, and respective one-way valves. The rigid capsule contains an impermeable membrane that divides the capsule into a blood compartment and an outer compressible compartment that is filled with a volume of gas/liquid.
Blood pumps having an encapsulated actuator
Systems and methods for generating blood flow with a blood pump including a membrane and an encapsulated actuator are described. The pump may be implantable and may include a stator assembly, an electromagnetic assembly supported by the stator assembly, a magnetic assembly, one or more springs attached to the stator and the magnetic assembly, and encapsulation portions that connect the magnetic assembly to the stator assembly. The magnetic assembly may further be coupled to a membrane assembly including a flexible membrane. The electromagnetic assembly may be selectively activated to cause the magnetic assembly to reciprocate, thereby causing the membrane assembly to reciprocate and inducing wavelike undulations in the flexible membrane to pump blood from an inlet to an outlet of the pump. The encapsulation portions may prevent blood from interacting with an interior moving portion of the pump thereby reducing the risk of hemolysis.
Flexible magnetic membrane based actuation system and devices involving the same
A flexible magnetic membrane based actuation system comprising magnetic nanoparticles loaded into a polymeric material such as polyurethane and adapted to actuation of to and fro pumping motions of the membrane under application of magnetic field on the magnetic nanoparticles loaded membrane. More particularly, the present invention is directed to the said nanoparticles-loaded polyurethane magnetic membrane based actuation system adapted to function as displacement membrane for various activities requiring such to and fro motion. The magnetic membrane actuation is adapted to be controlled using electronic equipments to regulate the rate, force and frequency of displacement pulses. The magnetic membrane is thus capable of providing a simple, bio-compatible and cost effective means for displacement/mechanical work to assist functioning of various gadgets/medical devices including function as an artificial support system for heart, non-responsive diaphragm or a non-responsive sphincter, and thus capable of wide industrial applications.

BLOOD TREATMENT SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Dialysis systems are disclosed comprising new fluid flow circuits. Systems may include blood and dialysate flow paths, where the dialysate flow path includes balancing, mixing, and/or directing circuits. Dialysate preparation may be decoupled from patient dialysis. Circuits may be defined within one or more cassettes. The fluid circuit fluid flow paths may be isolated from electrical components. A gas supply in fluid communication with the dialysate flow path and/or the dialyzer able to urge dialysate through the dialyzer and urge blood back to the patient may be included for certain emergency situations. Fluid handling devices, such as pumps, valves, and mixers that can be actuated using a control fluid may be included. Control fluid may be delivered by an external pump or other device, which may be detachable and/or generally rigid, optionally with a diaphragm dividing the device into first and second compartments.

IMPLANTABLE PUMP SYSTEM HAVING AN UNDULATING MEMBRANE WITH IMPROVED HYDRAULIC PERFORMANCE
An implantable pump system is provided, suitable for use as a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) system, having an implantable pump, a battery, a controller, and a programmer. The implantable pump includes a flexible membrane coupled to an actuator assembly via a skirt that extends toward the inlet of the pump and curves to guide blood toward the outlet. The actuator assembly is magnetically engageable with electromagnetic coils, so that when the electromagnetic coils are energized, the actuator assembly causes wavelike undulations to propagate along the flexible membrane to propel blood from the inlet, across the skirt, and through the outlet of the implantable pump. The controller may be programmed by a programmer to operate at frequencies and duty cycles that mimic physiologic flow rates and pulsatility while operating in an efficient manner that avoids thrombus formation, hemolysis and/or platelet activation.
