Periodontal disorders such as disorders associated with a dental implant are treated. An average power for a laser is selected via a user interface on a tablet, along with a set of permissible laser parameters provided in response to the selected average power. A gingival trough or flap is created around the implant with the laser. Infected tissue is selectively ablated or denatured via photothermolysis, and a pocket is lased around the affected implant. Marginal tissues are compressed against the implant.

PHOTOTHERAPEUTIC TREATMENT OF SKIN DISORDERS

Methods of treating skin disorders are disclosed. The methods involve impinging light having a first peak wavelength on the tissue at a first radiant flux, wherein the first peak wavelength and the first radiant flux is selected to provide an anti-inflammatory effect, and impinging light having a second peak wavelength on the tissue at a second radiant flux, wherein the second peak wavelength and the second radiant flux are selected to either stimulate enzymatic generation of nitric oxide to increase endogenous stores of nitric oxide or release nitric oxide from the endogenous stores are disclosed. Representative skin disorders include pruritus, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, and eczema, and the skin can include the scalp. The methods can reduce stinging and/or itching associated with the skin disorder. The anti-inflammatory wavelengths can be in the range of between about 650 and about 680 nm.

A method of inactivating one or more pathogens in an environment. The method includes providing light from at least one lighting element of a lighting device installed in the environment, the at least one lighting element configured to provide light toward a target area in the environment, the provided light having at least a pathogen-inactivating first component in a first range of wavelengths of 400 nanometers to 420 nanometers. The pathogen-inactivating first component of light produces an irradiance of at least 0.01 mW/cm.sup.2 as measured at a surface in the target area that is unshielded from the lighting device and located at a distance of 1.5 meters from an external-most luminous surface of the lighting device. Providing the light causes the one or more pathogens to be inactivated.

INJECTABLE PROLONGED-ACTION COMPOSITIONS FOR USE IN THE TREATMENT OF NAIL DISEASE AND/OR FOR PROMOTING NAIL GROWTH

Injectable prolonged-action compositions for use in the treatment of nail diseases, including potentially promoting the growth of the nail, or for use promoting the growth of the nail. The compositions are administered subcutaneously, and optionally as an implant. The compositions may be in solid or non-solid form and include one or more solid biodegradable sustained-release polymers, and optionally one or more active substances.
