Scheduler optimization for OFDMA downlink transmissions

Systems and methods are provided for optimizing the scheduling of Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) transmissions in the downlink (DL) direction. A two-stage mechanism can be implemented when effectuating DL OFDMA transmission involving multiple modulation and coding schemes (MCS) in a single transmit burst. A first stage of the two-stage mechanism may use radio frequency (RF) boosting/de-boosting of Resource Units (RUs) such that the average input power to an AP power amplifier (PA) may remain under a saturated PA output power to ensure PA linearity. If RF boosting/de-boosting is not supported, an alternative mechanism for OFDMA grouping (to rigid grouping) can be employed to skip higher MCS.

The communication unit (21, 41) transmits at least one of a first transmission signal or a second transmission signal depending on a predetermined condition, the first transmission signal being obtained by performing the first error correction encoding processing and the second error correction encoding processing on transmission data sequences, and the second transmission signal being obtained by performing the second error correction encoding processing on the transmission data sequences.

Method for adapting a link for selecting a frame transmission mode and corresponding WI-FI access point

A link adaptation method uses a selection criterion for selecting a transmission mode for transmitting PPDU frames over a channel of a telecommunications system. The system includes an access point and a plurality of stations having various different transmission modes associated with different data rates. Access to the channel being of the random type. The selection makes use of a time occupancy metric γ of the channel.

Techniques for device-to-device frequency reuse in cellular networks

Device-to-device (D2D) transmissions by a wireless device may interfere with base station reception of other signals. To mitigate this interference, the wireless device estimates the path loss between itself and the base station. The path loss and the current D2D transmission power level are used to estimate the amount of interference the base station is experiencing as a result of the D2D transmissions from the wireless device. Based on the estimated interference experienced by the base station, the wireless device increases the robustness of the MCS being used and decreases the transmission power level by a corresponding amount. By decreasing the D2D transmission power level, less interference will be experienced by the base station. By increasing the robustness of the MCS, the impact of the reduced D2D transmission power level is mitigated.

Optimizing ABR segment sizes for mobile video outage coverage in an ABR streaming network
09832503 · 2017-11-28 · ·

A scheme for optimizing segment sizes for an adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming client engaged in a current ABR streaming session. In one implementation, a determination is made whether a wireless UE device executing the ABR streaming client is approaching a radio white spot area. If so, a video buffer of the ABR client is configured to preload a fixed number of segments having an adjusted size depending on the duration of the radio white spot area. The preloaded segments may comprise lower quality video segments, and as the wireless UE device exits the radio white spot area, the segment size and/or bitrates may be restored depending on the signal quality.
