Techniques are disclosed to facilitate avatar personalization in a virtual environment. A request to generate an avatar in the virtual environment to represent a requesting entity is received. Data pertaining to the requesting entity is retrieved, the data not specifying any visual appearance of the avatar. A proposed avatar is generated based on the retrieved data. The proposed avatar is output to the requesting entity.

A communication terminal receives, from a mobile terminal, counterpart terminal identification information for identifying a counterpart communication terminal that the communication terminal is to start communication, and determines a communication application to be used by the counterpart communication terminal based on the received counterpart terminal identification information. When the determined communication application is a first communication application, the communication terminal identifies, as the counterpart communication terminal, a first counterpart communication terminal that uses the first communication application. When the determined communication application is a second communication application, the communication terminal identifies, as the counterpart communication terminal, a second counterpart communication terminal that uses the second communication application. The communication terminal further transmits a communication start request to the identified counterpart communication terminal that uses the determined communication application, to start communication with the identified counterpart communication terminal through the determined communication application.

An automation system is provided for deployment in a building with rooms and includes computing resources which are receptive of contextual information and an electronic device cluster in each room. Each electronic device cluster includes electronic devices at least one of which gathers environmental information within the room and at least one of which communicates the environmental information to the computing resources. Descriptors of one or more electronic devices of a portion of the electronic device clusters are undefined at an initial time. The computing resources are configured to compare the contextual and environmental information from at least one electronic device cluster, identify a location and a use of the one or more electronic devices of the portion of the electronic device clusters based on comparison results and assign descriptors to the one or more electronic devices accordingly and communicate with the one or more electronic devices using the descriptors.

A system and method are provided for a network device for use with a client device having a hostname and a MAC address. The network device contains a memory that has a second hostname and a second MAC address stored within the memory. The second MAC address corresponds to the second hostname. The memory also contains a processor configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause the network device to: receive, from the client device, the hostname and the MAC address; determine whether the MAC address is randomized; provide an instruction to the client device to inform a user of the client device that the client device hostname is registered when the hostname matches the second hostname and the MAC address is randomized.

The invention is an improvement to an originally patented invention titled the Global portal network that allows the use of any domain name followed by a name or email address in the address bar of any internet browser to, using an algorithm that is part of the platform, generate and implement a query that will cause the internet browser to publish information stored in an active directory system and/or database that is on the platform.

An example playback device is configured to detect an input indicating a command to power up the playback device and, based on the input, begin initialization of a wireless network interface. After beginning initialization of the wireless network interface but before the playback device is capable of establishing a connection to at least one wireless network type via the wireless network interface, the playback device causes the wireless network interface to scan for available wireless networks of the at least one wireless network type. The playback device identifies at least one available wireless network and stores an indication of the at least one available wireless network. After the playback device is capable of establishing a connection, the playback device uses the stored indication of the at least one available wireless network to establish a connection to a given wireless network of the at least one available wireless network.

Example methods are provided for a host to implement distributed network emulation in a virtualized computing environment. The method may comprise detecting one or more packets from a source network address associated with a source virtualized computing instance to a destination network address associated with a destination virtualized computing instance. The method may also comprise, in response to determination that a network emulation rule configured for the source virtualized computing instance and destination virtualized computing instance is applicable to the one or more packets, determining a physical network condition associated with a path between the source virtualized computing instance and destination virtualized computing instance. The method may further comprise emulating a desired network condition specified by the network emulation rule by performing an emulation action on the one or more packets.

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a group-based communication server for associating an identifier with one or more message communications within a group-based communication system. In some embodiments, the group-based communication server comprises at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code.

In one embodiment, a device in a network receives a set of known user identifiers used in the network. The device receives web traffic log data regarding web traffic in the network. The web traffic log data includes header information captured from the web traffic and a plurality of client addresses associated with the web traffic. The device detects a particular one of the set of known user identifiers in the header information captured from the web traffic associated with a particular one of the plurality of client addresses. The device makes an association between the particular detected user identifier and the particular client address.
