INTERACTIVE APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR MUSCLE STRENGTHENING
20190070462 · 2019-03-07 ·

An interactive exercise system with apparatus and methods to optimize muscle strength for rehabilitation, to improve or maintain fitness, and to enhance the performance of athletes. The system uses an electronically controlled linear actuator to generate resistance against the muscular force exerted by the user. The system includes sensors configured to detect acceleration, speed, velocity, position, direction of movement, duration, and the force applied by the user. A control system preferably continuously monitors the sensors, and instantaneously adjusts the adaptive actuator, This provides a proportional counterforce to the user force throughout the entire range-of-motion. A display panel allows the user to interact with the system in real-time, The objective of the user is to synchronize the exercise performance with a selected target goal, by correlating the user's movement relative to a position on a display panel.

This invention offers a rowing machine's mechanical resistance device which comprises an electric motor or a solenoid, a programmable control means and a custom algorithm, controlling the programmable controls means. It eliminates the compromising effect of backlash between the rower's handle and the resistance imparting device. This backlash is present between the power and the idle phases of rowing strokes on all state of the art rowing machines comprising flywheels. Ultimately, this invention allows all rowers to improve their rowing form and avoid injury.

An eccentric weightlifting machine that includes a first pole connected to a first weight and to a device acted on by a user, a second pole connected to a second weight and to a motor, wherein the motor lifts the second pole in response to movement of the first pole by the user, and a latch configured to latch the first pole to the second pole during an eccentric exercise portion of a weightlift.

Exercise apparatus using constant velocity resistance training

Exercise equipment provides maximum effort repetitions, every rep, safely, through constant velocity. With constant velocity resistance, every person using the equipment can achieve maximum resistance for each repetition, whether their strength maxes out at 5 lbs. or 500 lbs. of resistance. The constant velocity resistance allows for reduced resistance with each repetition as fatigue sets in, without changing the equipment settings. The exercise equipment includes a line coupled to a handle, and retracted by a retraction assembly. An impeder provides resistance for pushing/pulling (depending on the exercise) based on constant rotational velocity of the impeder, rather than resisting with a force of gravity, spring force, or friction. The impeder prevents extraction of the line faster than the constant rotational velocity. Thus, a user can push/pull as hard as desired, and the line can only be extracted as limited by the velocity of the impeder.

A first determination that a range of motion of a user of an exercise machine is between pre-determined motion thresholds is made. While the range of motion of the user is between the pre-determined motion thresholds, a velocity of the cable being below a pre-determined velocity threshold is determined. In response to determining that the velocity of the cable being below the pre-determined velocity threshold while the range of motion of the user is between the pre-determined motion thresholds, a second determination that the user should be spotted is made, Torque of a motor is reduced based at least in part on the second determination that the user should be spotted.
