An apparatus main body including a recording mechanism portion that performs recording on a paper sheet; and a reading mechanism portion which is linked to the apparatus main body to be rotatable in an upper portion of the apparatus main body, and reads a document, the reading mechanism portion includes a reading unit which extends in a main scanning direction, and moves in an auxiliary scanning direction intersecting with the main scanning direction, a motor which moves the reading unit, and a first linking portion and a second linking portion which are disposed on the outside of a moving region when the moving region of the reading unit is viewed in a plan view, and are linked to the apparatus main body to be rotatable, and the motor is disposed at least in any of the first linking portion and the second linking portion.

An automatic document feeder (300) includes a housing (301), conveyance roller pairs (313 to 317), and a pressure releasing mechanism. The housing (301) is openably/closably attached to a main body of an image forming apparatus. The conveyance roller pairs (313 to 317) pinch an original document sheet with pressure and feed the original document sheet. The pressure releasing mechanism detaches one rollers (313b to 317b) of the conveyance roller pairs (313 to 317) from the other rollers (313a to 317a) in conjunction with an operation of opening the housing 301 against the main body.

An image formation device for executing a printing job to form a toner image on a record sheet includes: an operation panel configured to move between a first position at which the operation panel protrudes from a front of a device body and a second position at which the operation panel is retracted to a device body side with respect to the first position; an acquisition device configured to obtain state information indicating a state of the device body; and a hardware processor configured to determine, based on the obtained state information, whether the state of the device body is a state requiring a user access to the device body or a state of accessing to the device body and to retract the operation panel to the second position when a determination result is positive.

A recording apparatus includes: a recording unit that performs recording on a medium; a medium discharging section that discharges the medium on which recording has been performed; a medium receiving section that receives the medium discharged by the medium discharging section; a face-down discharge path that guides, to the medium discharge section, the recorded medium with a recorded side thereof facing downward; a document movement path that is provided at an upper part of a housing constituting an outer casing of the recording apparatus and along which a document moves; and a reading unit provided in the document movement path to read the document. The medium receiving section also serves as a support tray that supports the document to be inserted into the document movement path or the document exiting from the document movement path.

An upper unit configured to open and close an upper portion of a lower unit includes: a first reading unit disposed in a medium transport path, the first reading unit being configured to read a surface of a transported medium; a substrate coupled to the first reading unit; a cable having one end and another end, the one end being coupled to a first coupling portion of the first reading unit, the other end being coupled to a second coupling portion of the substrate; and a facing portion facing the lower unit in a state in which the upper unit is closed, the facing portion being configured to be attached to and detached from the upper unit. The cable is disposed at a position exposed when the facing portion is detached from the upper unit.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion provided with an opening portion through which a cartridge is removably mounted and a cover member opening and closing the opening portion. An original reading portion is pivotable about a first rotation axis. The cover member is pivotable about a second rotation axis parallel to the first rotation axis. A force is applied to pivot the original reading portion so that an engagement portion of the original reading portion slides on a sliding face of the cover member to apply a force from the engagement portion to the sliding face to pivot the cover member. In a cross section orthogonal to the first rotation axis, a first portion of the sliding face approaches the original reading portion from one end side on which the first and the second rotation axes are provided toward an opposite side.

A reading apparatus, having a platen glass, a document cover, a conveyer, a reading sensor, a document supporting member, a pressing plate, and a linkage assembly, is provided. The document cover is movable between an open position and a closed position. The document supporting member is movable between a first position, where the document supporting member faces a reading surface of the reading sensor, and a second position, where the document supporting member is separated from the reading surface. The pressing plate is movable between a third position, where the pressing plate is attached to a lower side of the document cover, and a fourth position, where the pressing plate is removed from the lower side. The linkage assembly moves the document supporting member from the first position to the second position in conjunction with the pressing member moving from the third position to the fourth position.

An image forming apparatus includes an image reading device, a holding member that is rod-like, and an image forming device having an image forming unit that forms an image on a sheet, and having a wall part having a hole. The image reading device reads an image on a document, is provided on the image forming device, and rotates around a rotation shaft openable and closable with respect to the image forming device. The holding member has one end attached on the image reading device, and holds the image reading device opened with respect to the image forming device when another end of the holding member is inserted into the hole formed in the wall part. The holding member includes a first regulation part that comes into contact with a lower surface of the wall part to regulate detachment of the other end of the holding member from the hole.

System and method for printer intrusion detection. One embodiment is a system that includes memory configured to store personnel identification data for a plurality of operator classes permitted to perform different levels of maintenance actions on a printer. The system also includes an intrusion detection controller configured to detect a presence of a person in an operating space of the printer based on image data, to analyze the image data to detect one or more characteristics of the person, to determine an operator class for the person based on a match of the detected characteristics of the person with the personnel identification data stored in the memory, and to monitor adherence to maintenance permissions by the person in a plurality of physical areas of the printer based on the operator class of the person.
