An image forming apparatus which is capable of quickly switching the power mode of the image forming apparatus from the power saving mode to the normal mode. The image forming apparatus includes a printer engine and operates in a normal mode and a power saving mode, the image forming apparatus further includes a main system, a sub system communicably connected with the main system, and an engine controller communicably connected with the sub system and configured to control the printer engine. When the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving mode to the normal mode, the sub system completes start-up of software necessary for communication between the sub system and the engine controller before starting software necessary for communication between the main system and the sub system is completed, and transmits, to the engine controller, device information of the image forming apparatus acquired from the main system.

A system and method for servicing of devices includes a processor, associated memory and a user interface including a display. A display generator generates images on the display. The memory stores device data for each of a plurality of serviceable devices. Device data for each device includes a unique device identifier and associated device status data. The display generator is displays an image including a device data list on the display. The user interface receives filter data from an associated user and the processor generates a subset of the device data in accordance with received filter data. The processor generates a label corresponding to the subset and stores the label in the memory. The processor further receives a device inquiry from the associated user via the user interface, and the display generator generates a labeled display image including the label responsive to a received device inquiry.

An image forming device includes a data collection service and a mail transmission service as extension services for providing a function other than a standard function of the image forming device to an extension application, and an extension service management unit for managing the data collection service and the mail transmission service. When the state of one of a plurality of extension services changes, a service activation control unit of the extension service management unit notifies the other of the plurality of extension services of the change. When the extension service is notified of the change in the state of the other extension service from the service activation control unit, the extension service executes a specific operation.

An image forming device includes a storage device, firmware for the image forming device, and a prohibition control unit configured to execute control relating to prohibition in the image forming device. The firmware includes prohibition information indicating the prohibition, and the prohibition control unit holds use prohibition information indicating the prohibition to be used when executing the control relating to the prohibition in the image forming device. After the prohibition control unit sets the prohibition indicated in the prohibition information included in the firmware into the use prohibition information, when a setting file indicating the prohibition to be set in the image forming device is stored in the storage device, the prohibition control unit updates the use prohibition information with the prohibition indicated in the setting file on the storage device.

An information processing apparatus includes: a management system that detects a user operation and acquires information input by the operation as data to be supplied to an electronic apparatus; and a setting system that supplies a first sub-module to the electronic apparatus, the electronic apparatus including one or more electronic apparatuses, the first sub-module being to be installed in each of the one or more electronic apparatuses to allow each of the one or more electronic apparatuses to execute a particular function, and executes a second sub-module to cause the management system to acquire setting data, the setting data being necessary for each of the one or more electronic apparatuses to execute the first sub-module, and to supply the setting data acquired by the management system to the one or more electronic apparatuses.

An image processing apparatus includes an image processing device and a controller configured to obtain data identification information, receive definition data identified by the data identification information, display a definition screen based on the received definition data, receive a designation operation, further obtain the data identification information defined in the screen definition data, control the image processing device to execute image processing defined in the operation definition data, when the obtained data identification information is first identification information for identifying first definition data stored in a first server, determine whether the first identification information coincides with the specific identification information, prior to receiving the definition data, and when the first identification information coincides with the specific identification information, receive second definition data identified by second identification information associated with the specific identification information from a second server.

An information processing apparatus identifies, from among printers for each of which a first type of printer driver has been installed, a printer for which a second type of printer driver is installable. The information processing apparatus displays, as candidates for a printer for which the second type of printer driver is to be installed, printers in a search result, acquired from an operating system, from which printers for each of which a printer driver has been installed are excluded, and the identified printer.

An image forming apparatus is provided. The image forming apparatus includes a network interface unit which is connected to a host device in which a manager program is stored, a printing unit which performs a printing job, a storage unit which stores a management information base (MIB), and an agent program, and a control unit which communicates with the host device using a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). If an application is newly installed, the control unit updates the MIB. Therefore, it is possible to easily add, modify, or delete a management object (MO).

There is provided an image forming apparatus capable of adding and deleting applications, the apparatus comprising: a designating unit configured to designate an application and a file to be deleted; and a deleting unit configured to delete a designated file associated with the application designated by the designating unit.

An information processing apparatus capable of communicating with a device, comprises: an installation unit configured to install a driver corresponding to the device; a determination unit configured to determine whether icon generation by a first generation unit configured to generate an icon cannot be performed in correspondence with the driver installed by the installation unit; and a control unit configured to, if it is determined by the determination unit that icon generation by the first generation unit cannot be performed, generate, by a second generation unit configured to generate an icon, the icon corresponding to the driver installed by the installation unit.
