The terminal device measures a reference signal of the first cell to determine beam information of the first cell. The terminal device sends layer 2 signaling to the network device by using a second cell, where the layer 2 signaling includes the beam information of the first cell, and the second cell is a primary cell or a primary secondary cell corresponding to the first cell.

This disclosure generally relates to systems, devices, apparatuses, products, and methods for wireless communication. A communication system may include a user equipment (UE) that receives a configuration for contention-free random access (CFRA) and a configuration for contention-based random access (CBRA). The UE determines a first random access resource. The first random access resource maps to one or more beams from a target base station. The UE determines a beam quality associated with the first random access resource. The UE initiates a random access request using the CFRA when the first random access resource is a contention-free resource, and the beam quality of the first random access resource is above a threshold beam quality. The UE initiates the random access request using the CBRA when the first random access resource is the contention-free resource, and the beam quality of the first random access resource is below the threshold beam quality.

Assisted beamforming at mobility

Systems and methods are disclosed herein relating to beam-switching in a wireless system. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a User Equipment device (UE) that transmits and/or receives to and/or from a source Antenna Node (AN) on a source beam comprises performing a Mobility Reference Signal (MRS) search to attempt to detect MRS transmitted by one or more candidate ANs for one or more candidate beam. The method further comprises, if one or more conditions that are indicative of the MRS search being unsuccessful are met, transmitting an indication that the MRS search was unsuccessful. In this manner, one or more network nodes are informed that an action(s) (e.g., assisted beam-formed MRS transmission and/or increasing MRS transmit power at candidate AN(s)) needs to be taken to enable a successful MRS search by the UE.

METHODS AND DEVICES FOR DETERMINING SUITABLE TRANSMIT DIRECTIONS FOR BEAMFORMED TRANSMISSION

Methods, devices and computer programs for determining new transmit directions to use for beamformed transmissions in case the link quality of an existing direction falters. A transmitting communication device and a receiving communication device cooperate via a beam tracking procedure to determine a new suitable transmit direction to use for upcoming beamformed transmissions. Information relating to the beam tracking procedure is communicated over an existing link that enables communication between the transmitting and receiving communication devices. The receiving communication device provides the transmitting communication device with information about a beam scan performed in order to detect tracking beams transmitted by the transmitting communication device. This information allows the transmitting communication device to determine suitable transmit directions to use.
