Method and apparatus for allocation of information to channels of a communication system

Methods and apparatus are described for improving the transmission of information over wireless communication channels. These techniques include determining available communication channels for transmitting information and determining possible physical layer packet sizes of the available channels. An information unit is partitioned into portions wherein the size of the portions are selected so as to match one of the physical layer packet sizes of the available communication channels. Another aspect is partitioning the information into a number of slices that correspond to the number of transmissions that occur during the information unit interval and assigning each partition to a corresponding transmission. The techniques can be used for various types of information, such as multimedia data, variable bit rate data streams, video data, or audio data.

A method of operating a mobile wireless network is described to ensure proper function of protocol entities during the transmission of data units between two wireless stations of the mobile wireless network. In this case, user data is assembled by a first convergence protocol layer of the first wireless station into at least one first data unit, particularly a packet data unit, before transmission to a second convergence protocol layer of a second wireless station, particularly on the same protocol level, with the user data being supplied to the first convergence protocol layer by at least one user in a network layer. At least one protocol entity of the first convergence protocol layer is configured as a function of a configuration request received by the second wireless station, in order to form the at least one first data unit from the data received from the at least one user and to transmit it through a carrier to a link control layer.

Leveraging full duplex for rate adaptation in wireless LANs

Techniques for presenting communication between two or more stations in a WLAN environment are provided. Specifically, methods are presented, that when taken alone or together, provide a device or group of devices with an efficient way for fast rate adaptation based on full duplex functionality, increasing link and network throughput. The present disclosure includes a method that provides a fast rate adaptation by leveraging full duplex in order to get immediate channel quality feedback.

A network may include a method that includes, for example, receiving a communication request responsive to a telephone number mapping query failure, where the communication request is initiated by an originating communication device requesting a communication session with a terminating communication device, foregoing initiating the communication session as a circuit-switched communication session responsive to determining that the originating communication device and the terminating communication device are enabled to use packet-switched communications, and instructing a second network node to initiate the communication session as a packet-switched communication session between the originating communication device and the terminating communication device responsive to the determination. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Content output system and codec information sharing method in same system

A contents output system capable of outputting contents and a method for sharing codec information for outputting the contents in the system are provided. The method for sharing codec information in a contents output system includes sharing, when a media server, a media renderer for outputting contents, and a control point are connected, codec information provided by the media server and the codec information of contents playable by the media renderer, and providing, at the media server, the contents to the media renderer according to the shared codec information.

Ethernet media converter supporting high-speed wireless access points

Disclosed are method and system for Ethernet media conversion supporting high-speed wireless access points. The method includes receiving at each of a plurality of input-side Ethernet modules in a media converter, a plurality of input data streams at a first data rate. In the media converter each of the plurality of input data streams may be aggregated into an output data stream at a second data rate. The output data stream may then be transmitted at the second data rate from an output-side Ethernet module in the media converter. Each of the input data streams may be received from an Ethernet switch, and the output data stream may be transmitted to a wireless access point. In one exemplary implementation, each of the input-side Ethernet modules may include a 1G PHY, while the output-side Ethernet module may include one or both of a 2.5G PHY and a 4G PHY.

Multimedia transcoding method and system for mobile devices
09628831 · 2017-04-18 · ·

Aspects of the present invention include method and systems or processing multimedia data exchanged between mobile devices. Initially, a transmitting mobile device attempts to send multimedia data formatted in a primary format even though a receiving mobile device cannot process the data. The multimedia data in the primary format is then uploaded to a multimedia communication server where the multimedia data can be transcoded on demand into a secondary format that the receiving mobile device can indeed process. To track the multimedia data, the transmitting mobile device receives a multimedia identifier associated with the multimedia data uploaded to the multimedia communication server. Instead of sending the multimedia data, the transmitting mobile device forwards the multimedia identifier to the receiving mobile device allowing the receiving mobile device to demand transcoding the multimedia data into a secondary format on the server that the receiving mobile device is capable of receiving and processing.

In an embodiment, a radio communication device may be provided. The radio communication device may include a first receiver configured to receive from a first cell first data representing a content encoded using a first codec; a second receiver configured to receive from a second cell second data representing the content encoded using a second codec; and a combiner configured to combine the first data and the second data.

IP origination point and method to determine transcoding in packet communications

An IP origination point and method to determine transcoding in packet communications are provided. The IP origination point in one example embodiment includes a communication interface configured to exchange packet communications with a media transport path, a storage system configured to store an origination communication, payload data for the origination communication, integrity information for the origination communication that is configured to be modified by one or more transcoding operations, and returned integrity information that may have been modified by the one or more transcoding operations. A processing system generates and transmits the origination communication into the media transport path, compares the returned integrity information to the integrity information, and determines a transcoding level of transcoding that occurred in the media transport path if the returned integrity information is not equal to the sent integrity information.
