A cooking appliance includes a housing that defines a cavity therein, a door connected to the housing and configured to open and close the cavity, a microwave (MW) heating module configured to emit microwaves into the cavity, and an induction heating (IH) module configured to emit a magnetic field towards the cavity. The IH module includes a working coil that is configured to generate the magnetic field and a thin film that is disposed between the cavity and the working coil.

Food load cooking time modulation

A cooking system is disclosed. The cooking system is configured to prepare a selected food over a desired time period. The cooking system comprises a controller in communication with a heating apparatus and a user interface. The controller is configured to access a cooking database for the selected food and display a range of available times for the desired time period according to the cooking database. The controller is further operable to receive a selection of the desired time period from the user interface and control the heating apparatus to heat a food load to prepare the selected food to a predetermined quality in the desired time.

Microwave Methods for Converting Hydrocarbon-Based Waste Materials into Oil and Gas Fuels

A portable, sustainable, and efficient system and apparatus for breaking down processed solid plastic waste and other polymer-based feedstock into fuel oil, sustainable energy, carbon char, and other useful products. With minor modifications, biomass can also be treated. Distributed microwave heating sources and mechanical mixing effectively mix heat in a highly insulated reactor that protects the microwave components, makes fast pyrolysis possible, and thereby enables scaling down to compact and highly portable systems. Products include diesel, gasoline, propane, butane, and char. Product materials are distributed using tight temperature control and mechanical routing.

A Microwave Heating Apparatus

A heating apparatus for multiple modes of heating including microwave heating in combination with other traditional modes of heating is disclosed, having a base; a grill configured with the base and adapted to support a container from a rim of the container holding the container in suspended position; a lid pivotally held with the base for movement between a raised open position and a lowered closed position over the container. At least one microwave generating device is coupled with the lid such that in closed position of the lid, microwave heating using the at least one microwave generating device can be done. A sensing mechanism comprising a plurality of plungers on periphery of the lid is provided such that when the lid is closed over the container, the plungers come in contact with top surface of the rim of the container to detect if the lid is properly closed over the container.
