In another aspect, a magnet array is disclosed comprising a first subset and a second subset of polyhedral magnets having different coercivities. In yet another aspect, a magnet array is disclosed wherein a subset of the centers of the individual ones of the plurality of polyhedral magnets are laterally displaced from a nominal position in the magnet rack to counteract a magnetic field gradient of the magnet array.

A process for magnetically sorting biological objects includes the steps of applying a magnetic field generated by a magnetic assembly to a flexible conduit; flowing a sample fluid containing magnetically labeled biological objects through the flexible conduit to collect the magnetically labeled biological objects on a conduit wall; removing the magnetic field from the flexible conduit; and mechanically deforming the flexible conduit to loosen the magnetically labeled biological objects collected on the conduit wall.

There is provided a fluid treatment separator and a method of treating fluid such as tailings from tailings ponds resulting from oil sands production. A fluid treatment separator may be used for treatment of a mixture containing at least oil and water. The separator includes a mixing chamber, an inlet and at least one outlet. The mixing chamber defines a flow path between the inlet and the at least one outlet. The inlet includes a nozzle arranged to introduce turbulence to the mixture along the flow path. At least one magnet is arranged to apply a magnetic field to the mixture along the flow path.

The thermostat is electrically connected to a cooling unit which flows low temperature gas to at least one conductive ball to suddenly decrease a temperature of each. The rotational member is connected to each one ball. The rotational member controls a rotation of each ball.

When the apparatus is used, a volume of the magnetic fluid in one of the first to fourth conduit areas, in which a flow direction of the magnetic fluid coincides with a gravity direction, is larger than that of another conduit area, in which the flow direction of the magnetic fluid does not coincide with the gravity direction.
