Hardened inductive device and systems and methods for protecting the inductive device from catastrophic events
A hardened inductive device and systems and methods for protecting the inductive device from impact is provided. The inductive device is hardened with protective coating and/or an armor steel housing. The hardened inductive device is protected from impact by an object such as a bullet and leakage of dielectric fluid is prevented. Acoustic and vibration sensors are provided to detect the presence and impact, respectively, of an object in relation to the inductive device housing. The measurements of the acoustic and vibration sensors are compared to thresholds for sending alarms to the network control center and initiating shut-down and other sequences to protect the active part. The acoustic sensor results are utilized to determine the location of origin of the projectile.
Systems and methods for dissolved gas analysis
A method of analyzing dissolved gas in an oil-filled transformer includes determining a centroid of a polygon that represents a plurality of dissolved gas concentrations. A fault region in which the centroid of the polygon is located is determined, where the plurality of fault regions are defined in a composite fault region map that is a composite of a Duval Pentagons 1 and 2. The method classifies a fault experienced by the transformer based on the determined fault region within the composite fault region map. The classification is done by a machine learning classification technique. Further embodiments classify faults based on dissolved gas levels without determining a centroid of a polygon representing the dissolved gas levels. Related systems are also disclosed.
Method of Diagnosing Oil-Immersed Electrical Apparatus
The present invention is related to a method of diagnosing an oil-immersed electrical apparatus by an assessment of a state of deterioration of the oil-immersed electrical apparatus, in which the oil-immersed electrical apparatus includes an insulating oil and an insulating paper and the insulating paper contains an amine compound. This method includes performing a quantitative analysis of a marker substance contained in the insulating oil and assessing a state of deterioration of the oil-immersed electrical apparatus based on a quantified value of the marker substance obtained by the quantitative analysis. The marker substance is a degradation product of cellulose, and this degradation product of cellulose does not chemically react with a deterioration product of the amine compound.
BULLET-PROOF ELECTRICAL DEVICE
An electrical device for connection to a high-voltage electrical system includes a fluid-tight tank which is filled with an insulating fluid, an active element which is disposed in the tank and has a magnetizable core and at least one winding which surrounds a core section, and a bullet-resistant armor which sheaths the tank and forms a mounting opening. In order to allow easy access, which can be matched to respective requirements, for servicing and mounting purposes, the mounting opening can be closed by a bullet-resistant cover which can be displaced parallel to the armor.
Transformer system and system for measuring pressure in a transformer tank
A transformer system includes a transformer and a transformer tank. The transformer tank houses the transformer in a bath of a dielectric fluid. The transformer system also includes a controller, and a fiber optic pressure sensor communicatively coupled to the controller. The fiber optic sensor is disposed in the dielectric fluid and operative to provide an output that varies with the pressure of the dielectric fluid. The controller is operative to determine the pressure of the dielectric fluid based on the output of the fiber optic pressure sensor.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING COMPONENTS IN A POWER TRANSFORMER OR THE LIKE
The present application is directed to an electrical system including a housing configured to hold electrical components within an internal volume. In one aspect the electrical system is a power transformer. A sensor is mounted to the housing and is configured to sense a parameter associated with one or more electrical components during operation of the electrical system. A control system including a communication unit and a data processing unit is operable for analyzing the sensed parameter and comparing the sensed parameter to a predetermined minimum or maximum threshold value.
