Skateboard truck
11673040 · 2023-06-13 · ·

A truck includes a base plate, a hanger, a kingpin, and a bushing assembly. The base plate includes a coupling portion and a contact portion. The kingpin is disposed within a portion of the hanger to rotatably couple the hanger to the base plate. The bushing assembly includes at least one bushing disposed in a recess of the contact portion and in contact with the hanger. The bushing assembly including a bushing adjustment coupled to at least one of the base plate or the hanger and configured to selectively engage the at least one bushing to transition the bushing assembly between a first configuration in which the at least one bushing exerts a first force in response to rotation of the hanger and a second configuration in which the at least one bushing exerts a second force different from the first force in response to rotation of the hanger.

Skateboard truck with inverted king pin and integrated kingpin fastener

A skateboard truck includes a metal bolt called a kingpin and a threaded fastener, called a hex nut, which when combined hold the two main components of a truck together: the baseplate, which is mounted to the bottom surface of the skateboard deck; and the turning part of the truck called the hanger, which is mounted onto the baseplate by means of the kingpin, and affixed tightly into the baseplate by means of a threaded hex nut. Two bushings placed along the shaft of the kingpin and on either side of a flange protruding from the hanger hold the hanger in place by the tightening of the kingpin into the threaded shaft nut fastener. The kingpin is oriented such that a threaded portion of the kingpin (on an end opposite a bolt head portion) is generally facing towards a bottom surface of the skateboard deck.

Electric skateboard with strain-based controls and methods
11484775 · 2022-11-01 · ·

An electric weight sensing skateboard using one or more strain gauge systems to detect rider-induced strain on one or both trucks, an inertial sensor to detect accelerations and balance position, and wheel speed sensors. Throttle is controlled by rider position, for example, lean forward to increase speed, lean back to slow down. Several drive methods include a driver position detection velocity setpoint control, torque setpoint control, and direct velocity/torque control. A throttle remote is note required. Rider weight activates the motors.

Skateboard truck including a storage space
09802110 · 2017-10-31 ·

A skateboard truck mountable to a deck of a skateboard, the truck comprising a base plate including a storage cavity formed within the base plate for removably accommodating a storage drawer for storing small items. The storage cavity is arranged facing away from the skateboard deck when the truck is mounted onto the deck. The base plate can include a biasing member disposed at a distal end for propelling the storage drawer outwards from the storage cavity. The storage drawer can include a latch adapted to releasably engage with a drawer retention feature provided within the storage cavity, thus preventing the storage drawer from sliding out of the storage cavity. A release pin is provided within the base plate for releasably engaging the latch to dislodge the latch from the retention feature allowing the storage drawer to slide out from the storage cavity to gain access to the items.

A truck for a skateboard utilizes spherical balls mounted for rotation beneath the deck of the skateboard such that the balls are freely rotatable in a direction along the longitudinal axis and are less rotatable in a direction transverse to the axis such that the skateboard exhibits behavior expected from a snowboard in snow.

SELF-PROPELLED PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION DEVICE
20170297454 · 2017-10-19 ·

The present disclosure includes a transportation apparatus. The apparatus comprises: a surface to receive a plurality of forces at a plurality of locations thereon; a plurality of force sensors, attached to the surface, to provide information related to the plurality of forces; a plurality of wheels beneath the surface, each of the plurality of wheels being coupled with a motor; and a controller to: determine, based on the provided information, a first plurality of forces at the plurality of locations; determine, based on the first plurality of forces, a reference distribution associated with the plurality of locations; determine, based on the provided information, a second plurality of forces; determine a target speed and a target direction of the apparatus based on the reference distribution and the second plurality of forces; and provide one or more signals to the motors based on the target speed and the target direction.

Surfboard with Removable Wheels
20170282051 · 2017-10-05 ·

A wheeled system for engagement with a surfboard is provided. Wheeled trucks are configured for removable engagement with a lower surface of a surfboard using mounting plates or recessed connections. The removable engagement of the trucks allow a rider to ride on support surfaces such as the sidewalk, and to remove the trucks to employ the surfboard in the water. The removable trucks may be retrofitted to existing surfboards with an elastic or mechanical engagement, or may be provided in combination with a surfboard.

Skateboard Riser With Integrated Bluetooth Speaker
20170238124 · 2017-08-17 ·

A riser for a skateboard with an integrated Bluetooth transceiver, the riser attaching between the deck and truck of the skateboard. Wireless transfer of information from device to device, such as between a mobile phone and the riser, is enabled. The output signal from the transceiver is coupled to a digital audio amplifier for providing an audio signal to persons within the listening area of the riser.

"L" Shaped Bracket for Skateboard Lights
20170326434 · 2017-11-16 ·

An “L” shaped bracket is disclosed that is mounted onto a skateboard truck mounting base using one pre-existing corner bolt that provides a means to mount a clip which holds a removable light. The light casts illumination towards the front and/or back of the board allowing the skateboarder to see a path in front of them in the dark and to be visible to others.

Lean-to-Steer Mechanisms with Linear or Non-linear Steering Responses
20170252637 · 2017-09-07 ·

The present steerable wheel assembly incorporates a lean-to-steer mechanism into an inner race of a roller bearing, while a wheel is mounted to an outer race of the roller bearing. A shaft extending from the mechanism is attached to a body, and the mechanism acts to steer the outer race and the wheel about a vertical steering axis when the shaft is tilted about a horizontal axis. The mechanism can be a pivot joint, providing a linear steering response, or can be a lean-to-steer mechanism that provides a non-linear response where the steering action is not consistently responsive to tilting over the expected range of tilting. The present non-linear lean-to-steer mechanisms can also be incorporated into alternative lean-to-steer devices, and alternative mechanisms can employ tracking structures to coordinate tilting motion of a first moving element with steering motion of a second moving element to provide a non-linear lean-to-steer response.
