The apparatus may also include a heating element to, in response to application of the third voltage potential, heat the cathode emitter and lower a work function of the cathode emitter.

A corona/plasma treatment machine includes an array of electrodes arranged in a helix along a conductive central cylinder, allowing for the efficient surface treatment of materials with greater cross-sectional heights and widths than what is conventionally possible. The corona/plasma treatment machine further includes of a high frequency, high voltage power source, a dielectric, and a contact plate. The array of electrodes is driven using a motor and rotates about its longitudinal axis and is electrically isolated from its surroundings. When power is supplied to the electrode array, electrical energy is discharged from the tips of the electrodes near the contact plate and creates a plasma corona aura formed from the ionization of the surrounding air between the electrode array and the contact plate. A conveyor is positioned below the electrode array and configured to feed material through the plasma corona aura.

A monitoring circuit that includes a pickup loop to monitor a voltage applied to a cavity of a linear accelerator is disclosed. The monitoring circuit is electrically isolated from the linear accelerator and is also electrically isolated from the controller that receives input from the circuit and controls the linear accelerator. In certain embodiments, the monitoring circuit also includes an energy harvester so as to capture energy without any physical connection to the controller. This may be achieved using light energy or electromagnetic energy, for example. In certain embodiments, the monitoring circuit includes an analog-to-digital converter to convert the signals received from the pickup loop to digital values. In other embodiments, the monitoring circuit passes analog voltages to the controller. The outputs from the monitoring circuit may include the amplitude and phase of the voltage being applied to the respective cavity.

A magnetic lens is disclosed, which includes: a magnetic yoke, an exciting coil and a power supply controlling system. The magnetic yoke is at outside of the exciting coil and surrounds the coil; the exciting coil is made up of litz wires; the power supply controlling system is arranged to supply power to the exciting coil and control the flow directions and magnitudes of the currents in the exciting coil. A method for controlling the magnetic lens is also disclosed.

A multi-beam particle beam system includes a multi-aperture plate having a multiplicity of apertures. During operation, one particle beam of the plurality of particle beams passes through each of the apertures. A multiplicity of electrodes are insulated from the second multi-aperture plate to influence the particle beam passing through the aperture. A voltage supply system for the electrodes includes: a signal a generator to generate a serial sequence of digital signals; a D/A converter to convert the digital signals into a sequence of voltages between an output of the D/A converter and the multi-aperture plate; and a controllable changeover system, which feeds the sequence of voltages successively to different electrodes.

Provided herein are approaches for controlling an ion beam using an electrostatic filter with curved electrodes. In some embodiments, a system may include an electrostatic filter receiving an ion beam, the filter including first and second electrodes disposed opposite sides of an ion beam line, each of the first and second electrodes having a central region between first and second ends, wherein a distance between a first outer surface of the first electrode and a second outer surface of the second electrode varies along an electrode length axis extending between the first and second ends. The system may further include a power supply in communication with the electrostatic filter, the power supply operable to supply a voltage and a current to the first and second electrodes, wherein the variable distance between the first and second outer surfaces causes the ion beam to converge or diverge.

There is provided a control method for an electron microscope including a thermionic-emission gun of self-bias type using a fixed bias resistor, an accelerating voltage power supply supplying an accelerating voltage to the thermionic-emission gun, and an optical system for irradiating a specimen with an electron beam. The control method includes: obtaining a value of a load current which is a current passing through an accelerating voltage power supply; determining a filament height of the thermionic-emission gun based on the value of the load current; and setting a condition of the optical system based on the filament height.
