Anode for fluoride ion battery

An anode for a fluoride ion electrochemical cell is provided and includes a layered material of hard carbon, nitrogen doped graphite, boron doped graphite, TiS.sub.2, MoS.sub.2, TiSe.sub.2, MoSe.sub.2, VS.sub.2, VSe.sub.2, electrides of alkali earth metal nitrides, electrides of metal carbides, or combinations thereof. The anode may be included in a fluoride ion electrochemical cell, which additionally includes a cathode and a fluoride ion electrolyte arranged between the cathode and the anode. At least one of the cathode and the anode reversibly exchange the fluoride ions with the electrolyte during charging or discharging of the electrochemical cell.

METHOD OF PRODUCING ELECTRODE, METHOD OF PRODUCING BATTERY, ELECTRODE, AND BATTERY

A slurry is prepared by mixing active material particles, capsule-shaped particles, a binder, and an organic solvent. The slurry is applied to a surface of a substrate to form a coating film. The coating film is heated to dry to form an active material layer. The active material layer is compressed to produce an electrode. Each of the capsule-shaped particles includes a thermoplastic resin. The thermoplastic resin softens when heated in the presence of the organic solvent. When the thermoplastic resin softens, the capsule-shaped particles shrink to form voids in the active material layer.

Self-lithiating battery cells include an anode having a current collector, a host material applied to the current collector comprising graphite, silicon particles, and/or SiO.sub.x particles, wherein x is less than or equal to 2, and lithium foil in contact with the current collector. Methods for pre-lithiating battery cells include charging and discharging the battery cell to deplete the lithium foil by causing lithium ions to migrate from the lithium foil to the cathode and/or the anode. The methods can further include subsequently iteratively charging and discharging the battery while the depleted lithium foil remains within the battery cell. The lithium foil can be pure elemental lithium metal or a lithium magnesium alloy. The lithium foil can include 10 wt. % to 99 wt. % lithium and 1 wt. % to 90 wt. % magnesium. The anode current collector can include perforations.

Anode for thermal battery, apparatus for manufacturing the anode for thermal battery, and method of manufacturing the anode for thermal battery

A lithium anode of a thermal battery may include a metal alloy foam in which a plurality of pores is formed and including nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), and aluminum (Al) mixed in a predetermined composition ratio, and lithium impregnated into the metal alloy foam in a molten state and accommodated in the pores, wherein the chromium in the composition ratio may facilitate the impregnation of the lithium into the pores and reduce the reactivity of the metal alloy foam to the lithium at an operating temperature of the thermal battery, and the aluminum in the composition ratio may facilitate the impregnation of the lithium into the pores and prevent the lithium from penetrating into a surface of the metal alloy foam.
