Provided is a lithium ion secondary battery including Li.sub.4Ti.sub.5O.sub.12 particles in a negative electrode active material layer and having both high heat generation suppressing performance during overcharging, and high storage stability in a high SOC region. The lithium ion secondary battery herein disclosed includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode has a positive electrode active material layer. The positive electrode active material layer includes Li.sub.3PO.sub.4 as a secondary material. The negative electrode has a negative electrode active material layer. The negative electrode active material layer includes Li.sub.4Ti.sub.5O.sub.12 as a secondary material. The Li.sub.3PO.sub.4 content in the positive electrode active material layer is 0.5 mass % or more and 5.0 mass % or less. The Li.sub.4Ti.sub.5O.sub.12 content in the negative electrode active material layer is 0.5 mass % or more and 5.0 mass % or less.

A method of preparing an electrochemical electrode which is partially or totally covered with a film that is obtained by spreading an aqueous solution comprising a water-soluble binder over the electrode and subsequently drying same. The production cost of the electrodes thus obtained is reduced and the surface porosity thereof is associated with desirable resistance values.

Composite electrodes and methods of making the same

Disclosed herein is a composite electrode comprising a charge-conducting material, a charge-providing material bound to the charge-conducting material, and a plurality of single-walled carbon nanotubes bound to a surface of the charge-providing material. High-capacity electroactive materials that assure high performance are a prerequisite for ubiquitous adoption of technologies that require high energy/power density lithium (Li)-ion batteries, such as smart Internet of Things (IoT) devices and electric vehicles (EVs). Improved electrode performance and lifetimes are desirable. The disclosed electrode can have a Coulombic efficiency of 99% or greater, and a stable capacity retention after 100 cycles or more. Also disclosed herein are methods of making a composite electrode.

An electrochemical cell is provided which includes a cathode, an anode, an electrolyte separator, and an anode current collector located on the anode. The anode is a three-dimensional (3D) porous anode including ionically conducting electrolyte strands and pores which extend through the anode from the anode current collector to the electrolyte separator. The anode also includes electronically conducting networks extending on sidewall surfaces of the pores from the anode current collector to the electrolyte separator.

A main object of the present disclosure is to provide an all solid state battery wherein interface resistance between a current collector and an active material layer is low. In the present disclosure, the above object is achieved by providing an all solid state battery comprising: an electrode including a current collector, an electron conductive layer, and an active material layer, in this order, and a solid electrolyte layer formed on the active material layer side of the electrode, and the electron conductive layer is an agglutinate of metal particles or a metal foil, and electron conductivity of the electron conductive layer is 1×10.sup.3 S/cm or more at 25° C.

Described herein are electrodes, electrochemical cells, methods of making electrodes and methods of making electro-chemical cells. The electrodes described herein have an interface layer or material that can stabilize reversible alkali metal deposition. The interface material may correspond to or be a solid-electrolyte interphase that can allow alkali metal ions to transmit through and be deposited below the interface material. The interface material can prevent dendrite formation and/or decomposition of the electrolyte, enabling use of lithium metal safely in a secondary (i.e., rechargeable) electrochemical cell. The interface material may comprise a combination of one or more metals, one or more chalcogens, and one or more other elements or organic functional groups.

The present invention provides compositions including polyelectrolyte complexes. The composition includes: 1) an inorganic salt comprising a metal ion having a charge of at least +1 and an anion having a charge of at least −1; and 2) a complex comprising a first species and a second species, wherein the first species is a positively charged polymerizable monomer or a first charged polymer comprising one or more positively charged monomer repeat units; the second species is a negatively charged polymerizable monomer or a second charged polymer comprising one or more negatively charged monomer repeat units; and the complex has a net charge of near zero. These compositions are useful for ion selective applications in electrochemical devices.
