A battery pack that includes an enclosure having at least four sidewalls and a base. An array of cells is arranged on the base, with each of the cells having a large wall surface and a small wall surface. The cells are arranged such that the large wall surfaces are parallel to each other. Components of the enclosure are made from an extrusion process and are mechanically attached or welded together. A base of the enclosure has fluid channels formed from the extrusion for use in cooling the array of cells.

An integrated battery and cooling system (2) is provided, comprising a plurality of cells (10) and a heat sink arrangement (16). Each cell (10) comprises at least one electrical collector (27) of a first material coupled to a first electrically and thermally conductive electrical terminal (12) extending away therefrom, and at least one electrical collector (27) of a second material coupled to a second electrically and thermally conductive electrical terminal (14) extending away therefrom. The electrical terminals (12, 14) are substantially planar and form respective sidewalls of a series of elongate channels there-between. The heat sink arrangement (16) extends within each channel and is thermally coupled to at least one sidewall thereof.

The coolant layer includes a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface. The refrigerant layer includes a third surface and a fourth surface opposite to the third surface. The first surface of the coolant layer is closer to the battery module group than the second surface of the coolant layer. The third surface of the refrigerant layer is closer to the battery module group than the fourth surface of the refrigerant layer. The battery module group is arranged along the first surface of the coolant layer. At least part of the coolant layer is arranged between the refrigerant layer and the battery module group in a plan view.
