Multi-band integrated antenna arrays for vertical lift aircraft
A system of antennas, each having disparity operating frequencies, are incorporated into the same aircraft body panels. HF antennas define loops with large internal areas; additional higher frequency antennas are disposed within that large internal area. The higher frequency antennas are sufficiently different so as to prevent coupling. Antennas operating in the same frequency range, disposed on different parallel surfaces are operated in concert as a steerable array.
Aircraft comprising a multiplicity of antenna arrangements
An aircraft comprising a skin, a multiplicity of antenna arrangements, each of which is arranged in a different region of a corresponding multiplicity of mutually spaced regions of the skin and comprises an antenna element that is arranged and configured to emit radio waves into a surrounding area of the aircraft, and a multiplicity of visual indicators, each of which is assigned to a different antenna arrangement of the antenna arrangements. Each of the visual indicators is arranged on the skin or on the antenna arrangement in the region of the skin in which the assigned antenna arrangement is situated in such a manner that it is visible from outside the aircraft and emits light during operation in an on state.
Conformal antenna
An antenna device is presented. The antenna device comprises: a conformal antenna body which has a desired geometry corresponding to a front portion of a platform on which the antenna device is to be mounted, and an antenna unit carried by the antenna body. The antenna unit comprises at least one phased array of antenna elements. The antenna elements of each array are arranged in a spaced-apart relationship in a closed loop path along a circumference of the antenna body having a desired geometry corresponding to a front portion of platform on which the antenna unit is to be mounted. Each of the antenna elements is configured as an end-fire antenna element capable of emitting linearly polarized radiation, the array of the antenna elements being thereby operable as a forward looking end-fire antenna array, enabling electronic steering of an antenna beam by controllably modifying phases of the antenna elements of each array.
Thermal management system for structures in space
An antenna assembly has a solar layer having one or more solar cells generating solar power, an antenna layer connected to the solar layer and having electronic components utilizing the solar power generated by the solar layer, and a thermal dissipation device dissipating heat locally at the antenna assembly. A large number of antenna assemblies are connected to form an antenna array in which heat is generated locally at each antenna assembly and dissipated locally at each antenna assembly.
System and method for an aircraft communicating with multiple satellite constellations
A satellite communication system for an aircraft communicates with multiple satellite constellations. The communication system includes a phased array antenna system and a transceiver. The transceiver is configured to communicate with a number of satellite constellations and configured to support simultaneously links to two or more constellations via the phased array antenna system. The satellite constellations can be micro-satellite, MEO, LEO, and GEO constellations.
Antenna arrangement for an aircraft
An antenna arrangement for an aircraft for fastening to an outer side of an exterior skin of the aircraft has a body and side wall sections and a connecting section. The body is U-shaped or H-shaped if viewed from a predefined direction and can be flowed through with a low aerodynamic drag by a flow along the predefined direction. The antenna arrangement has one or more antennas in the form of a printed circuit board and of which each is fastened to the body and is fastenable directly to the outer side of the aircraft exterior skin at two first edges of the side wall sections which form two free ends of the U-shape or H-shape on a first side of the connecting section or, for the U-shape, on the connecting section and/or regions of the side wall sections, which regions adjoin the connecting section directly as the predefined direction is parallel to the flow direction during flight.
ANTENNA LATTICE WITH UNEQUAL SPACING FOR SINGLE-PANEL FULL-DUPLEX SATELLITE USER TERMINALS
A full-duplex User Terminal Panel (UTP) including one or more User Terminal Modules (UTM) having a plurality of Tx antenna elements. Each of the Tx antenna elements spaced apart from one another by a distance dTx. The full-duplex UTP further includes a plurality of Rx antenna elements. Each of the Rx antenna elements are spaced apart from one another by a distance dRx. Furthermore, the Tx antenna elements may be spaced according to a Tx lattice dTx, such that the Tx lattice dTx spacing arrangement provides grating lobe-free scanning in an elevation plane at a Tx frequency range. The Rx antenna elements are spaced according to an Rx lattice dRx, such that the Rx lattice dRx spacing arrangement provides grating lobe-free scanning in an elevation plane at a Rx frequency range.
Induction curing of cell-based structural arrays
Adhesive bondlines in a cell-based structural array are thermally cured using tooling blocks inserted into the cells. The tooling blocks have embedded susceptors that are inductively heated by an alternating electromagnetic field generated by an electromagnet.
Monopole Antenna Assembly with Directive-Reflective Control
An antenna assembly includes a driven element, a first set of antenna elements disposed a first distance from the driven element such that each element of the first set of antenna elements is equidistant from adjacent elements of the first set of antenna elements, and a second set of antenna elements disposed a second distance from the driven element such that each element of the second set of antenna elements is equidistant from adjacent elements of the second set of antenna elements, the second distance being larger than the first distance. The antenna assembly includes or is operably coupled to a selector module configured to select one element of the first set of antenna elements as a selected director, and select one element of the second set of antenna elements as a selected reflector by effectively shortening a length of the selected director and effectively lengthening the selected reflector.
Low-profile conformal antenna
A low-profile conformal antenna (“LPCA”) is disclosed. The LPCA includes a plurality of dielectric layers forming a dielectric structure. The plurality of dielectric layers includes a top dielectric layer that includes a top surface. The LPCA further includes an inner conductor, a patch antenna element (“PAE”), and an antenna slot. The inner conductor is formed within the dielectric structure, the PAE is formed on the top surface of the top dielectric layer, and the antenna slot is within the PAE. The LPCA is configured to support a transverse electromagnetic (“TEM”) signal within the dielectric structure.
