A toothed holding brake for a vehicle door has a shaft, an armature plate, a magnet device and a detection device. The armature plate has a first and second main surfaces arranged opposite one another, wherein an armature-plate toothed rim having a plurality of armature teeth is arranged on the second main surface. The armature plate is arranged in a locking position such that the armature teeth mesh in the carry-along teeth to prevent rotation of the shaft in at least one direction, and is arranged in a release position such that the armature teeth are arranged at a distance from the carry-along teeth to enable rotation of the shaft in both directions. The magnet device has a magnet main surface arranged facing the armature plate, wherein the magnet device is designed to move the armature plate between the locking position and the release position.

Line dispensing device with Eddy current braking for use with climbing and evacuation

Line dispensing devices include a coupling transmission, a retraction mechanism, and a rotor that rotates around a shaft. Rotation of the rotor causes a portion of at least one pivotable member to move into and out of a magnetic field.

Eddy current brake configurations

Described herein are eddy current brakes and associated methods of their use, particularly configurations that have a kinematic relationship with at least two rotational degrees of freedom used to tune operation of the brake or apparatus in which the brake is located.

Rotary electric machine and non-contact power generator

Provided is a rotary electric machine including: a permanent magnet rotatable around a first rotational shaft and disposed at a distance from a main surface of a moving body rotating or moving, at least a part of a side surface of the permanent magnet continuous to an outer peripheral surface thereof being opposed to the main surface of the moving body, wherein the permanent magnet is rotated around the first rotational shaft by a reaction force acting on the permanent magnet, the reaction force being caused by eddy currents produced in the main surface of the moving body in such a direction as to hinder a change of magnetic flux from the permanent magnet, and a surface speed of the side surface of the permanent magnet opposed to the moving body is lower than a surface speed of the main surface of the moving body opposed thereto.

Methods of altering eddy current interactions

Described herein are braking mechanisms and related methods of using eddy current interactions to resist relative movement between members, the magnetic flux about an eddy current region being modified beyond an inherent drag effect resulting from a simple magnetic pole arrangement.

COASTER AND TROLLEY SYSTEM AND METHOD
20210170285 · 2021-06-10 ·

A rail coaster operates as a cross between a roller coaster and a zip line. A rail may be suspended under a frame by flexible cables or solid brackets. The rail may turn, incline, decline, or twist, but need not twist to still provide a “rolling” degree of freedom for a rider. An eddy current brake provides proportional braking as a function of speed. A cam-adjustment-axle (eccentric) carries certain wheels to provide finely divided, discrete, but incrementally small adjustments of idler wheel clearances to accommodate variations in the rail, wheel wear, and onsite adjustment of tolerances for curvature, unevenness, and friction. A “static universal” bracket provides adjustment in four degrees of freedom, three of translation and one of rotation in securing a rail to a supporting frame.
