A power conversion system including a triple active bridge (TAB) is provided. The system includes a power factor correction (PFC) module and a three port converter (TPC) module, with no post-regulation or additional stages required. The TPC module includes an OBC full-bridge and an APM full-bridge, each being inductively coupled to the output of the PFC full-bridge, thereby forming the TAB. The OBC full-bridge is adapted to convert an AC input into a high-voltage DC output for a high-voltage battery, and the APM full-bridge is adapted to convert an AC input into a low-voltage DC output for a low-voltage battery. The power conversion system can accept a single-phase AC input and a three-phase AC input, has a lower current stress as compared to prior art TPCs, and freely transfers power from among any ports.

Apparatus and method for single-phase and three-phase power factor correction

A power-factor corrected AC/DC converter has three half-bridge legs, electrically coupled with each other in parallel, each leg having a pair of switches. Each switch of the pair is electrically coupled to the other in series via a respective node that is electrically coupled through an inductor to an AC line. The converter has a fourth half-bridge leg electrically coupled with the other legs to form an electrically parallel circuit. The fourth leg has a pair of switches electrically coupled to each other in series via a fourth node, which is selectively electrically coupleable to a neutral or a second AC line. The converter has a controller that operates the three legs as a 3-channel interleaved AC/DC boost converter and couples the fourth node to the neutral or second AC line if the input is single-phase, and as a 3-phase AC/DC boost converter if the input is three-phase.

The power conversion module includes a power factor correction PFC module and a first direct current-direct current DC-DC converter. A first primary circuit of the first DC-DC converter has a first bridge arm, a second bridge arm, a third bridge arm, and a fourth bridge arm. A first switch is disposed between the first bridge arm and an inductor at an interface of the PFC module, and a second switch is disposed between the third bridge arm and another interface of the PFC module. When the first switch and the second switch are turned on, a secondary circuit of the first DC-DC converter may implement a function of a primary circuit of a second DC-DC converter; the second bridge arm and the fourth bridge arm may implement a function of a secondary circuit of the second DC-DC converter; and the first bridge arm, the third bridge arm, the inductor of the PFC module, and a capacitor of the PFC module may form an inverter module, so as to implement an inverse discharging function.

In at least one embodiment, a vehicle battery charger is provided. The charger includes at least one transformer, a first active bridge, a second active bridge, and at least one controller. The first active bridge includes a first plurality of switching devices being positioned with the primary. The second active bridge includes a second plurality of switching devices being positioned with the secondary to generate. The controller is configured to activate the first plurality of switching devices based on a primary control signal and to activate the second plurality of switching devices based on a secondary control signal. The controller is configured to generate the secondary control signal in accordance to a first control variable. The controller is further configured to generate a second control variable that corresponds to a phase shift between the primary control signal and the secondary control signal.
