FAULT SHUTDOWN CONTROL OF AN ELECTRIC MACHINE IN A VEHICLE OR OTHER DC-POWERED TORQUE SYSTEM
A torque system includes a DC power device, a polyphase electric machine, a contactor pair, a power inverter module (PIM), and a controller. The PIM connects to the power device via the contactor pair and directly connects to the electric machine. The controller executes a method to control a fault response under a fault condition resulting in opening of the contactor pair and a polyphase short condition. The controller calculates a back EMF of the electric machine and transmits switching control signals to semiconductor switches of the PIM to transition from the polyphase short condition to a polyphase open condition only when the calculated back EMF is less than a calibrated value and a voltage rise on a DC side of the PIM is less than a calibrated voltage rise. A vehicle includes the DC power device, road wheels, electric machine, PIM, and controller.

A vehicle includes an electronic control unit configured to perform control of an inverter by switching a plurality of controls including: first PWM control of generating a first PWM signal of a plurality of switching elements by comparison of voltage commands of respective phases based on a torque command of a motor with a carrier voltage and switching the plurality of switching elements; and second PWM control of generating a second PWM signal of the plurality of switching elements based on a modulation factor of a voltage and a voltage phase based on the torque command and the number of pulses in a predetermined period of an electrical angle of the motor and switching the plurality of switching elements. The electronic control unit is configured to limit execution of the second PWM control when an abnormality occurs in at least one of the current sensor or the voltage sensor.

PREDRIVER SHORT PROTECTION
A gate driver circuit includes a comparator and a gate driver. The comparator is configured to detect a short circuit in a first power field effect transistor (FET). The gate driver is configured to drive a gate of the first power FET by generating a first signal at a first drive current. In response to the comparator detecting a short circuit in the first power FET, the gate driver is further configured to pulse the first signal at a first pulldown current. After the pulse has ended, the gate driver is further configured to drive the gate of the first power FET at a first hold current. The first hold current is less than the first pulldown current.
SAFE MODE FROM MISMATCH BETWEEN PROGRAMMED VOLTAGE STATE AND VOLTAGE STATE MAPPED TO VALUE OF EXTERNAL DEVICE
An apparatus includes a control circuit that includes a configuration register and configured to receive a configuration setting across an external bus. The configuration setting encodes a first voltage state for the apparatus. The control circuit includes an input configured to be coupled to an external electrical device. The control circuit is configured to determine a value of the external device that maps to a second voltage state for the apparatus. The control logic is configured to transition the apparatus to a safe mode upon a determination that the first voltage state does not match the second voltage state.
Drive control apparatus for electric motor
The present invention relates to a drive control apparatus for an electric motor and a control method thereof. In the present invention, the generation of electric brake is suppressed while protecting a semiconductor relay from excessive surge voltage. The drive control apparatus is configured to include: a drive circuit for controlling the drive of the electric motor; a semiconductor relay arranged on a drive line between the drive circuit and the electric motor to cut off current supply from the drive circuit to the electric motor; and an active clamp circuit for turning on the semiconductor relay when a potential difference between the drive circuit side and the electric motor side of the semiconductor relay is greater than or equal to a predetermined value.
Control system for an electric motor
A control system for an electric motor comprising a stator having a plurality of stator coils and a rotor movable along the stator comprises a position detection device and a coil monitoring device. In this case, the position detection device is designed to generate position data representing a position of the rotor along the stator, and the coil monitoring device is designed to generate coil data representing a status of one or a plurality of the stator coils. The control system furthermore comprises a safety device designed to carry out a coordination between the coil data and the position data. Moreover, the safety device is designed to cause the electric motor to be transferred to a safe state if an error has been discovered during the coordination.
Fault tolerant phase current measurement for motor control systems
