A sheet conveying apparatus of an embodiment includes a conveyance path along which a sheet can be conveyed, and a plurality of conveyance rollers configured to move a sheet along the conveyance path. A wireless tag reader/writer is configured to read information from, and write information to, a wireless tag of a sheet on the conveyance path. A phase change detector is configured to detect a phase change in response waves received by the wireless tag reader/writer from a wireless tag. A tag specifying unit is configured to identify whether a wireless tag is moving along the conveyance path based on the detected phase change in response waves from the wireless tag. A controller controls the wireless tag reader/writer to write information to the wireless tag identified as moving along the conveyance path.
SHEET CONVEYANCE DEVICE AND METHOD
A sheet conveyance device has a sheet conveyance path with a first path and a second path. A wireless tag communication device can write information to a wireless tag on a sheet on the first and second paths and receive responses from the wireless tag. A controller controls the wireless tag communication device to attempt to write information to the wireless tag while on the first path, then determines whether information has been written to the wireless tag on the first path according to a response received from the wireless tag. The controller switches a conveyance destination for the sheet to the second path if the information has not been written or to a discharge location if the information has been written. The controller then controls the wireless tag communication device to attempt to write information to the wireless tag while the sheet is on the second path.

An image processing device includes a printing unit printing an image on a sheet including first and second tags. The first and second tags have first and second antennas extending along first and second directions. The device further includes a tag reading unit including a third antenna and configured to transmit, towards the sheet from the third antenna, first radio waves polarized in the first direction and second radio waves polarized in the second direction in each of a first period during which the sheet is conveyed towards the third antenna and a second period during which the sheet is conveyed away from the third antenna, and determine an orientation of the sheet based on intensities of third radio waves polarized in the first direction and fourth radio waves polarized in the second direction, which have been received by the third antenna in each of the first and second periods.
Image forming apparatus with user authentication by near field wireless communication
An image forming apparatus includes an information storing unit, an information acquiring unit and a control unit. On the basis of association between pieces of identification information stored in the storing unit and pieces of user information, the control unit authenticates the use of the image forming apparatus by a user corresponding to an associated piece of identification information. Upon acquisition by the acquiring unit, of a piece of identification information which is not stored in the storing unit, the controller unit causes a display portion to display display regions corresponding to pieces of user information so as to be selectable to cause the storing unit to store piece of identification information and a corresponding piece of user information in association with each other.

The controller causes the display panel to display the reading image in response to restoration from the second mode to the first mode.

The MFP receives first target data from a portable device by using the first communication link. The MFP generates second target data by processing the first target data. After receiving the first target data, the MFP disconnects the first communication link.
