An image reading apparatus includes a first housing, a second housing, an imaging sensor, a reference member provided to be able to move between a first position facing the imaging sensor and a second position, a cam to make the reference member move, and an abutting member provided to make the cam move. The abutting member is located at a projecting position sticking out from the first housing, to make the cam move so that the reference member moves from the first position to the second position when the second housing is closed with respect to the first housing. The abutting member is provided so as to be able to retract when the second housing is opened and closed with respect to the first housing and abuts against the cam in the state located at the projecting position.

An image reading device includes: an original-document table at which an original document is mounted; a reading unit configured to read the original document mounted at the original-document table; an opening/closing section configured to be able to open and close the original-document table; a power source configured to apply power for opening and closing to the opening/closing section; a proximity sensor configured to output a detection signal in accordance with approach of a detection target; and a control unit configured to control the power source on a basis of the detection signal from the proximity sensor.

A scanner includes the following. A paper support guides an original document to a supplying port. An inverting unit inverts a front and a back of the original document fed through the supplying port. A reading unit reads the original document before being inverted. A discharging unit discharges the original document after being inverted. A portion of the original document is placed on a placement plate. A pressing unit presses the original document toward the placement plate at least at a downstream end portion in a discharging direction of the original document on the placement plate.

An image reading apparatus includes: a housing including a processing unit configured to process image information; an opening and closing member openably and closably provided on the housing, the opening and closing member including a reading unit configured to read an image from an image holding medium and configured to obtain image information from the image; a connection member that electrically connects the reading unit and the processing unit; and a protective member including a first protective member rotatably supported by the opening and closing member and a second protective member rotatably supported by the housing and rotatably connected to the first protective member, wherein rotation axial directions of the first protective member and the second protective member are the same direction as a rotation axial direction of the opening and closing member, and the connection member is accommodated in the protective member and protected by the protective member.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion to form an image on a sheet, a tray on which sheets to be fed are stacked, and a swing member supported by the tray and configured to swing in a case where the swing member is pushed by a discharged sheet. A stacking portion includes a first surface on an upper portion of a first portion, and a moving member in contact with the discharged sheet. The moving member can be positioned at a position downstream of the first surface in the discharge direction, wherein the swing member overlaps with the first surface as viewed in the sheet width direction in a case where the swing member is not in contact with a discharged sheet, and the swing member is arranged such that a lower end of the swing member is not in contact with the stacking portion.

An image reading apparatus includes a document bed on which a document is placed, an automatic document feeder (an example of an opening/closing member) configured to be opened/closed with respect to the document bed, a rotational supporting section provided at one end of the document bed and rotatably supporting the automatic document feeder with respect to the document bed, and a height adjustment mechanism that adjusts the height of the automatic document feeder relative to the document bed. The rotational supporting section has a holding section fixed to the document bed and a rotary fulcrum section attached to the holding section and being movable in the up-down direction relative to the holding section. The height adjustment mechanism adjusts the height of the rotary fulcrum section relative to the holding section to adjust the height of the automatic document feeder relative to the document bed and overlaps the holding section and the rotary fulcrum section in the vertical direction.

A transport apparatus includes: an apparatus body; an opening and closing unit attached to the apparatus body so as to be openable and closable between a closed position where an upper surface of the apparatus body is covered and an open position where the upper surface of the apparatus body is exposed, the opening and closing unit including, inside the opening and closing unit, a transport path along which a target material is transported; a transport path member that has a transport path surface constituting a part of the transport path, is rotatably supported by the opening and closing unit at one end portion side of the transport path member, and is configured such that the transport path is opened when the other end portion side of the transport path member moves downward from the opening and closing unit; and a hook portion that is rotatably attached to the other end portion side of the transport path member, is configured to hold the transport path member in a closed state of the transport path, in a hooked state in which the hook portion is hooked on a hooked portion of the opening and closing unit, based on a force applied toward a first rotation direction along which the hook portion is hooked to the hooked portion, and is configured to rotate in a second rotation direction opposite to the first rotation direction by coming into contact with the hooked portion while the transport path member is pushed upward by the upper surface of the apparatus body when the opening and closing unit is moved from the open position to the closed position in a non-hooked state in which the hook portion is not hooked on the hooked portion.

An hinge assembly for an image forming apparatus comprises a hinge case (102), an elastic member (104) disposed in the hinge case (102), a first sliding member (106) to engage with a first side of the elastic member (104), a second sliding member (108) to engage with a second side of the elastic member. Further, the hinge assembly may comprise a first hinge arm (110) to engage with the first sliding member (106) such that the first sliding member (106) may compressively engage with the elastic member (104) during rotation of the first hinge arm (110) relative to the hinge case (102). Furthermore, the hinge assembly may comprise a second hinge arm (112) to engage with the second sliding member (108) such that the second sliding member (108) may compressively engage with the elastic member (104) during rotation of the second hinge arm (112) relative to the hinge case (102). An image forming apparatus comprising the hinge assembly also is described. The hinge assembly can pivotally connect the scanner assembly and the cover member to the main body, and thereby enhancing the user experience and reducing the cost.

An image reading device includes a reading device body and a document feeder that is turnably attached on the upper side of the reading device body with hinge devices. An extended portion that extends outward from a rear frame is formed on a beam frame fixing the rear frame and a front frame of the document feeder at a predetermined interval, and a third coupling portion coupled to the turning member of the hinge device is formed in the extended portion.

A recording apparatus includes a recording unit and a document reading unit. The recording unit includes a shaft, and the document reading unit includes a groove forming member. In the groove, an elastically deformable portion configured to make the width of the groove narrower than a maximum diameter of the shaft The shaft has a shape in which a radial dimension changes along a circumferential direction and is provided so as to rotate, and when the elastically deformable portion passes through the shaft in the process of opening the document reading unit from the closed state, the rotation of the shaft is regulated such that the radial dimension of the shaft with respect to the width of the groove is equal to or less than a first dimension smaller than the maximum dimension.
