An image forming device includes a case whereon a medium gateway opening is formed, and a tray assembly. The tray assembly includes a tray, a cover and a resilient component. The tray drives the cover to pivot relative to the case in a first pivoting direction from a second folding position to a second using position to reveal the medium gateway opening when the tray pivots relative to the case in the first pivoting direction from a first folding position to a first using position. When the tray pivots relative to the case in a second pivoting direction opposite to the first pivoting direction from the first using position to the first folding position, the cover is driven by the resilient component to pivot relative to the case in the second pivoting direction from the second using position to the second folding position to conceal the medium gateway opening.

A feeding device to feed a conveyed medium stacked on a stacker, includes a first suction unit, a second suction unit, and third suction units. The first suction unit includes a suction chamber; a suction fan to exhaust air from the suction chamber; and a first driver to rotate the suction fan. The suction units are disposed above the conveyed medium stacked on the stacker. The second suction unit includes a rotary fan including a board and a plurality of walls extending from the board; and a second driver to rotate the rotary fan. The second suction unit generates a vortex flow directed to the conveyed medium. The plurality of third suction units is disposed in a direction perpendicular to a conveyance direction of the conveyed medium and attracts ends of the conveyed medium in the direction perpendicular to the conveyance direction.

There is provided an image reading apparatus that, when double feeding of documents is detected by a double feeding detector, transports the documents in the reverse direction of the transport direction at least until the leading edges of the double-fed documents are positioned at the upstream side of transport roller pairs by rotating a separation roller and a retard roller so as to transport the documents in the reverse direction, and that thereafter transports the documents in the transport direction by rotating the separation roller so as to transport the documents in the transport direction. There is provided an image reading apparatus that, when double feeding of documents is detected by a double feeding detector, transports the documents in the reverse direction of the transport direction at least until the leading edges of the double-fed documents are positioned at the upstream side of transport roller pairs by rotating a separation roller and a retard roller so as to transport the documents in the reverse direction, and that thereafter transports the documents in the transport direction by rotating the separation roller so as to transport the documents in the transport direction. When the documents are transported in the reverse direction, the image reading apparatus sets a second rotation speed of the retard roller to be faster than a first rotation speed of the separation roller.

A document transport device includes a document placement table on which documents of different sizes are capable of being stacked, a feeding unit capable of moving up and down, the feeding unit being configured to send out the documents stacked on the document placement table by moving down onto the documents and to move upward after sending out the documents, an isolation unit that transports the uppermost document among the documents sent out by the feeding unit by separating the document from the other documents, and a receiving unit that receives selection of a mixed-size document mode for sending out the documents of the different sizes stacked on the document placement table. When the receiving unit receives selection of the mixed-size document mode, the isolation unit transports one of the documents while the feeding unit is maintained in a lowered state after sending out the document.

Document handler having opposing belts maintaining constant sheet contact for scanning small and delicate sheets

Scanning devices include an input tray shaped to hold scannable items before scanning, an output tray shaped to hold the scannable items after scanning, a series of opposing belts positioned to transport the scannable items from the input tray to the output tray, and a round roller contacting a drum belt of the opposing belts. The opposing belts are positioned to have each of the scannable items constantly be held between the opposing belts or between the round roller and the drum belt of the opposing belts while the opposing belts are transporting the scannable items from the input tray to the output tray. A scanner is positioned in a gap between two of the opposing belts, and the gap is in a process direction that the opposing belts are moving the scannable items.

There is provided an image forming apparatus including a scanner unit configured to be openable on an apparatus front side with respect to a printer unit due to a first hinge portion on an apparatus rear side, a cover to cover a feed port configured to be openable due to a second hinge portion on the apparatus front side of the feed port, wherein a rotation axis of the first hinge portion is positioned on the apparatus rear side of a rotation axis of the second hinge portion in an apparatus depth direction. Interlocking with an operation to open the scanner unit, the cover moves while a portion thereof is in contact with a surface of the paper feed tray or the sheet placed thereon to open the cover in an interlocking manner.
