An image processing apparatus includes an image forming device, a reading device, and circuitry. The image forming device is configured to form a first pattern on a recording medium. The first pattern includes a plurality of patches in a plurality of tones. The reading device is configured to read the first pattern. The circuitry is configured to acquire read data of the first pattern from the reading device. The read data includes red, green, and blue (RGB) color space values. The circuitry is further configured to: correct the read data based on information indicating a relationship between a color and a position in the first pattern to reduce variation in readings due to a read position of the first pattern; convert the read data corrected into device-independent data; and adjust a color reproduction characteristic of the image forming device based on the device-independent data.

IMAGE READING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

An image reading device includes a reading unit that reads an image on a surface of a medium; and a calibrating unit that is disposed to face the reading unit with the medium disposed therebetween and that calibrates the reading unit. The calibrating unit is supported such that the calibrating unit is movable about a rotating shaft between a closing position at which the calibrating unit faces the reading unit and an opening position at which the calibrating unit is separated from the reading unit. The calibrating unit is positioned with respect to the reading unit when the calibrating unit is moved to the closing position.

SCANNER APPARATUS HAVING AN OPTICAL SENSOR

According to an example, a scanner apparatus may include a housing, a scan panel positioned on the housing and a lid rotatably mounted to the housing. The lid may be moved between a closed position and an open position, in which in the closed position, the lid covers the scan panel and in the open position, the lid is extended away from the scan panel. The scanner apparatus may also include an optical sensor to detect media placed on the scan panel and a media engine to determine whether the optical sensor has detected a media on the scan panel while the lid is in the open position.

Translatable scanner calibration target

In one example, a document scanner has a fixed-position scan bar and a built-in translatable calibration target. The scan bar has a linear array of imaging elements aimed in an imaging direction. The calibration target is spaced apart from and parallel to the linear array, and has a planar surface orthogonal to the imaging direction spanning the length of the linear array. The target is translatable during a calibration in a direction in a plane of the surface.

An image-forming apparatus includes a detachable consumable; a printer that prints an image using the consumable; and a controller that determines whether control information that is set for the consumable and that is for control of the printer exists. The controller extracts, when it is determined that the control information corresponding to the consumable does not exist, image information from an image of a predetermined test pattern printed by the printer, and acquires the control information generated based on the extracted image information.

A two-sided scanning device includes a first image scanning module, a second image scanning module, a first scanning background component, a first brightness calibration component, a second scanning background component, and a second brightness calibration component. When the second image scanning module moves relative to the first image scanning module to a scanning position, the second image scanning module drives the first scanning background component to move relative to the first image scanning module, so that the first image scanning module and the second image scanning module are aligned with the first scanning background component and the second scanning background component, respectively. Therefore, the first scanning background component and the second scanning background component can be scanning backgrounds for the first image scanning module and the second image scanning module to generate a scanning image of an object with a size corresponding to an actual size of the object.

An image reading apparatus comprises a light source for repeatedly emitting first light having a first color, second light having a second color and third light having a third color toward a read target while moving the light source in a sub-scanning direction, first, second, and third sensors, each configured to sense a strength of first, second, and third reflected light, respectively, in a light reflected from the read target, and to output first, second, and third signal waveforms corresponding to the strength of the first, second, and third reflected light, respectively, and a controller. The controller is configured to execute a line-to-line correction for correcting a phase shift between the first, second, and third signal waveforms, and to correct a shift in a signal level caused by the line-to-line correction.

The present disclosure pertains to an image reading device that may include an image reader, an operation detector, a correction parameter adjuster, an entry detector, and a document reading controller. The image reader may read an image on a document. The operation detector may detect an operation indicating a start of a reading of the image on the document. The correction parameter adjuster may perform adjustment of a correction parameter. The entry detector may detect entry of a document reading instruction including a reading condition. The document reading controller may check for completion of the adjustment of the correction parameter for the reading condition. If the adjustment of the correction parameter is not completed, the document reading controller may instruct the correction parameter adjuster to perform adjustment of an uncompleted correction parameter and instruct the image reader to read the image.

Image reading apparatus and method for performing shading correction using reference data generated by reading a moving surface of reference plate and positioning that plate based on sheet size

An image reading apparatus according to an embodiment includes an image reading unit that generates reference data by reading a reference surface and generates image data by reading a sheet. A reference plate includes the reference surface for generating the reference data for shading correction of the image reading unit and a background surface for background of a sheet to be read to generate the image data. A control unit controls the positions of the image reading unit and the reference plate to be at a first position relative to each other when the reference data is to be generated and at a second position relative to each other when the image data is to be generated. The second position is different from the first position. A shading correction unit performs the shading correction in the image reading unit based on the generated reference data.
