A resolution of an image data needs to be higher than a predetermined value for character recognition. A control method in an image reading apparatus having a reading unit for reading an image of a document to generate image data, and a storing unit for storing the image data generated by the reading unit includes receiving from a user, after the image data is stored by the storing unit, an instruction for executing character recognition processing on the image data stored by the storing unit, executing character recognition processing on the image data stored by the storing unit according to a reception of the instruction by the receiving unit, and performing control, in a case where the image data generated by the reading unit is to be stored by the storing unit, to read an image of a document by the reading unit with a resolution that enables character recognition.

An image processing apparatus comprises an input interface, a light source unit, a reading unit and a control unit. The input interface receives an input reading condition. The light source unit comprises a plurality of light sources which emit lights of different wavelengths. The reading unit reads an image on a sheet irradiated by the light of the light source unit. The control unit separately controls the quantity of the light emitted from each light source according to the reading condition input from the input interface.

The multi-function printer provides a control interface composed of a front-side scanning and copying option unit, a back-side scanning and copying option unit and a duplex scanning and copying option unit, and determines whether an option execution command is received based on the control interface. When the multi-function printer determines that it receives the option execution command, it continues to scan other data of the plurality of data and generate a second scanning image. By providing the control interface with concise and clear functions, it is convenient for users to select the copying method quickly and conveniently, thereby improving convenience and efficiency of use.

An image reading apparatus includes a reading unit that reads an original document that is located at plural locations different in a direction of a depth of field of a photodetector of a sensor module, and a fixing unit that fixes the sensor module in position such that a focal point of the photodetector is located within a difference between a minimum distance and a maximum distance from a light incident surface of the photodetector to the original document.

According to the present embodiment, an image-reading apparatus determines any one or both of the type of document and the shape of a document, selects any one or both of an appropriate document tilt detection method and an appropriate document position detection method according to any one or both of the determined type of document and the determined shape of a document, and detects any one or both of the tilt of the document and the position of the document by the selected detection method.

An image reading apparatus includes a transport unit which transports a document, and reading units which read an image of the document which is transported. It is assumed that an operation of reading an image when specific setting information is not input to a control device of the image reading apparatus is set to a first reading mode, and an operation of reading an image when specific setting information is input to the control device is set to a second reading mode. In this case, in the second reading mode, image data of an image with a resolution which is equal to that in the first reading mode is generated, while causing the reading units to read an image from a document which is transported by the transport device at a lower speed than that in the first reading mode.
