A maintenance support system includes a network interface, a memory, and a processor configured to, upon receipt of first information indicating a status of a first apparatus via the network interface, store the first information in the memory, upon receipt of second information indicating a status of a second apparatus via the network interface, store the second information in the memory, and determine a priority of on-site maintenance between the first and second apparatuses based on the first and second information stored in the memory.

Disclosed embodiments may include a system for measuring document legibility. The system may automatically receive document image data from a user device. The system may then process the image data using optical character recognition to create language data containing a plurality of words. The system may then obtain an overall number by counting the plurality of words in the language data. The system may then identify and count the common words within the plurality of words by comparing the plurality of words to words in a database. A score may be obtained by dividing the common word number by the overall number. The score may then be compared to a legibility threshold. If the score is below the threshold, the system may determine the document is illegible. If the score is above the threshold, the system may determine the document is legible.

An information processing apparatus loaded with an application for extending functionality of the information processing apparatus, includes a storage unit configured to, before occurrence of an event relating to an application, store display information including a display item relating to the application and displayed on a display unit of the information processing apparatus, and a display control unit configured to, after occurrence of the event relating to the application, update display relating to the display item according to the display information corresponding to the event stored in the storage unit, under control of a control program that runs on an operating system and provides a framework for managing the application.

An image forming apparatus and terminals are connected. The image forming apparatus comprises an image forming unit, a detector that detects an error, and a controller that when the error is detected, specifies a portable terminal to which a work to eliminate the error is requested, transmits a request to the specified terminal, and transmits a notification that notifies an occurrence of the error to each terminal other than the specified terminal. The terminal that has received the request displays information representing an error type and information promoting an elimination of the error, and the terminal that has received the notification displays not the information that promotes the elimination of the error but the information representing the error type.

A image reading apparatus includes a first unit fixed to the image reading apparatus, a second unit movably provided between a first position facing the first unit and a second position facing the first unit, wherein the second position is at a longer distance from the first unit than the first position, a guide provided for guiding a document being conveyed between the first unit and the second unit, such that the second unit is moved by the document, an image capturing device provided on one of the first unit and the second unit for capturing an image of a document guided by the guide, a drive force generating device for generating first drive force for moving the second unit, and a control module for causing the drive force generating device to generate the first drive force when the document is not conveyed.

The image reading apparatus includes an image capturing device, provided in a first unit or a second unit, for capturing a first image and a second image, a reference member provided in the first unit or the second unit, a driving device for moving the second unit, a foreign object determining module for determining whether or not a foreign object appears in the first image, and a position determining module for determining whether the foreign object exists on the image capturing device side or on the reference member side, based on an absolute value of a difference between a gradation value in a region where the foreign object appears within the first image and a gradation value in a region corresponding to the region where the foreign object appears, within the second image when the foreign object appears in the first image, wherein the first image is an image of the reference member captured when the second unit is provided at one of the first position or the second position, and the second image is an image of the reference member captured when the second unit is provided at the other of the first position or the second position.

A fax function diagnosis method and an apparatus for performing the method are provided. The fax function diagnosis method includes receiving a diagnosis request to diagnose a fax function of an image forming apparatus, diagnosing the fax function of the image forming apparatus by transmitting or receiving a test page, and performing an operation based on a result of the diagnosing.

An information processing apparatus includes a sensing unit that senses occurrence of a predetermined fault through one of detection of the occurrence of the fault and prediction of the occurrence of the fault, and a notifying unit that, when the fault is sensed to have occurred by the sensing unit, identifies a user to be notified that the fault is sensed to have occurred from among multiple users registered in advance, and notifies an information processing terminal of the identified user that the fault has occurred.

A readout controlling device includes a start time recording portion, a transmission controlling portion, an error determining portion, and a time changing portion. A start time of when a piece of information is read out from a storage device connected to the readout controlling device is recorded in the start time recording portion. The transmission controlling portion transmits a readout request to read out the piece of information, toward the storage device based on the start time. The error determining portion receives the piece of information readout from the storage device, and determines whether or not an error has occurred in the piece of information. If the error has been determined to have occurred, the time changing portion can change the start time recorded in the start time recording portion.
